6 month AC1 test
Just wanted to share my joy at my latest glycosylated hemoglobin (Ac1) test - 5.2 which I think corresponds to an average of about 90, which is what Dr.B says we should try for. On the ADA diet it was over 8 at one point. Lowcarb certainly works for me. By the way, this is not a lab result, but from a home test - I used the Metrika Ac1Now kit, which actually lots of Drs use in their office instead of waiting for a lab result. But anyhow, I was going to buy one over the web, which was going to be over $25, but found a distributor in my town which sells to Drs but was willing to sell to me too. So it cost $13.70. I should not have been surprised at the 5.2 reading, because I test a lot, and that was my average on the glucometer, but its nice to have this other test confirming it. Bill

That is great News, but I am confused. Carolyn put up this chart that conflicts with the 18 factor.

Congratulations on the great news. Personally I find that the LC WOL brings stability to my overall "health stats".
David P.S. Maybe you should buy and resell the Metrika kits on Ebay. |
That link is kind of weird amd now I can't edit my post!!! Frustration...here is a link to the thread it is in!

congrats bill,
thats a great result. christine |
It really is a great result.
The 5.2 is a percentage, which converts to 108 mg/dl. That 108 mg/dl can be divided by 18 to convert it to 6 mmol/L. The hga1c test actually measures something different to get a reading of how much glucose has been in your blood on average - which is why it has a different kind of number. But still, yours was a good reading, and congratualtions! |
Here's the chart, by the way. Somewhere there was a chart that had both US and Cdn units.. but oh well. This is for mg/dl (the US measure)
