new - got questions!!

Hi everyone, new girl here. I'm just beginning my low-carb/high-protein lifestyle. I do not have the book, however. I am planning on buying it in a few days. I do have a few questions. First of all, I don't understand the whole 3-phase system. (Induction??? Ketosis???? LOL) What foods should I be "able" to eat in each phase?? How long is each phase?? Also....what about diet soda?? Is it all right to drink??? Also, how much weight should I expect to lose in each phase??? How much should I exercise and what kind of exercise (I own a treadmill)??? And finally:), what can I eat when I eat out?? (Anything besides meats (chicken, steak, burgers- those get dull after a while.) THANK YOU! Good luck to everyone!!

Hi there FairyCute

Hello,

I too am new at this, but you have definitely found the right
place for an endless source of good info, advice and support.

It is best to get the book first. A lot of the "basic" information about this WOL (Way Of Life) is in there. Atkins or Protein Power seem to be the most suggested I've noticed. (I have Atkins)

*what about diet soda?? = Get ready for H20! :)

*how much weight should I expect
to lose in each phase??? = everybody is different

*should I exercise ?? = You know that answer ;)

There's lots of info on this site, but to be able to refer to it quickly, a book is the way to go. Get your mind set and get ready to begin your journey to a new way of life. (Living! lol )

Best of luck to you, Cheers, John

Hi Fairy,

Welcome to the forum!

Induction is when you rid your body of carbs and switch it to fat burning mode. During this time, you eat 20 grams of carbohydrates as part of your meals per day. After induction, you raise your carbohydrates by 5 grams a week until you find out how many carbs you can consume and still lose weight. There are lists of allowable foods in the Atkins book. Allowable foods are low in carbs.

We're all different! There are no standards for weight loss or anything else with low-carbing. Everyone loses at a different rate. Everyone stalls and plateaus for different reasons. Some lose quickly, some lose slowly.

It doesn't get boring. It's only as boring as you want to make it. Check out the Tips, Recipe and Karen section in the red/orange bar at the top of the page. Lots of good stuff there! Keep posting!

Karen
