Been on Holiday, am so disappointed..

I have just come back off a late deal holiday to tenerife and all the break was fantastic (my boyfriend proposed, yeeah!), I have to say i was very disappointed with the food there.

I know we all go on holiday for different reasons, but for me it is the great food (i am sure mose of you foodaholics are the same). I have been to Greece many times and was expecting that Tenerife, although Spanish, would be the same. wow was I wrong. I was expecting lovely cheap seafood, local delicasies, great salads.

The seafood available was ultra expensive, sometimes more that eating in the UK. I can only assume that they have over fished the area and have to get it imported. Everywhere was pasta or pizza, full english breakfasts and tonnes of chips. On my first day i asked for a plain omlette and it came out full of potato. i went into the supermarkets and it seems that they do not have to put labelling on their products in Spain.

I had a great break, but if you are serious about trying to maintain your diet while abroad, concider how 'english' they are. They obvoiusly think that everyone wants to eat a plate of chips

Welcome Back

Hi Jacki

Glad you had a great time in Tenerife and congratulations on your engagement.

Food on holiday can be a problem. I know it was when I went to Cyprus in January. Although I have not been to Spain for several years I do recall that the cost of living has gone up a lot over the years. The Canary Islands are now very commercialised and therefore you do get a lot of restaurants catering for the English's basic needs. You could have had the eggs and bacon, OK, if not the chips. The omlette you had with potato is a Spanish omlette and is a typical Spanish dish. You were not to know that. Another case of the same word meaning different things in different countries.

Anyway, you are back now with hopefully lots of great memories to see you through the summer. I hope that the scales are nice to you, but anyway, jumping back into this WOL any pounds you have put on will come off pretty quickly.
