muscle gain/ fat loss exchange (???!)

I weighed myself this morning (160). The last time i weighed myself a month or more ago, it was 160...I have been dieting and doing cardio 4-5 days a week, combined with 3-4 days of rather intense powerlifting. I know I LOOK different, (my proportions seem better, there is less fat in certain areas.) Clothes don't fit looser, rather they just look BETTER.

I guess i just need inspiration and reassurance that it is possible to lose fat while gainng serious muscle....I try not to weigh myself, but was talked into it. And now I'm discouraged that i'm doing something wrong because the evil scale hasn't moved.
So, is it possible? To gain muscle while losing fat and not seeing a loss on the scale?
Please encourage me!!!!
I feel that 160 is so HIGH; (I am trying to recover from years of lofat dieting and only walking for exercise, but weighing around 130...) I need to remember that i have the type of body that can carry a lot of extra weight (and now the extra weight is starting to be muscle instead of fat.)
Please help!!!

Don't lose the faith!

It is very possilbe and most likely that you have put on muslce in place of your fat. Muscle is much leaner than fat and in perspective of size 1lb of muscle takes up about 2/3 less space that 1lb of fat.

I weighed in this morning at the end of my first 12-week challenge for BFL and was dissapointed to see that I'd lost "only" another 4lbs. BUT, at 200lbs I've never fit into size 14's and I am now. I can see the significant change in my shape even if it isn't showing up on the scale.

Don't fret so much about the scale weight (as hard at it is...) and concentrate on how the clothes, your body and your mind feel. Yes, I wish that I could see a bigger scale loss but I feel 100% better, look better and I can fit into clothes that I haven't taken out of my closet in two years.

Keep up the great work.... you'll stat to see a shift sometime. The other great benefit of muscle weight vs. fat weight is that muscles burn a lot more calories.

Yes. Absolutely.
The tape measure or how your clothes fit and look is a FAR better way of measuring how you are doing than the scale. People can "shrink" while the stupid, annoying metal monster says: no change. Makes you want to throw it out the window - unless you live in an apartment

So yes, you CAN believe it. Sounds as though you are doing really well since you are getting results
