Stalled

Arghhhh, I'm getting discouraged
I have been stalled what seems like eternity, although I think it's been two weeks. No cheating and I've been drinking 80 ounces of water daily, no diet drinks, no substitutes.
My husband is also on Atkins and occasionaly he'll eat low carb ice cream with no stall whatsoever :(
I have added my fitday food menu. Could you please look it over? Maybe I am doing something wrong. I've been hungry lately. I did the BMR calculation, X it by 1.4 then subtracted 10 to 15 % from the total. Lately I haven't been eating that many calories. I forced myself to eat pork rinds last night to take up my calories. I usually don't eat them, yuk.
According to the BMR I should be eating 1706 or 1768 worth of calories.
I recently started riding my stationary bike...I haven't lost since.
However I look like I have lost inches in my waist and stomach.
Ketosis stix are still purple. Any thoughts or tweaks would be welcomed.
Thank you in advance :)

I just went through a 1.5 mo stall. Hang in there!!! Your menu looks pretty good to me. I know that it can be discouraging, but stick to it and your body will kick back in. It is prolly just readjusting right now. I woke up 2 lbs lighter this weekend after I decided not to stress over my cal intake. Also, a lot of the flavored pork rinds taste way better and are carb free too. Or make some cheesecake without the crust and eat that.

jagbender Tue, May-18-04 09:15

Things are good. You aren't stalled until at least 4 weeks.
Things I would do. Increase water to a gallon a day. Yep you heard me. :)
Instead of pork rinds (high sodium = retaining water) try adding
Flax oil for fat and calories.
You are still in Keto.
are you taking Fish oil Supplements?
You might want to shift from the Sat fats to the high Omega 3 fats.
Flax oil, Virgin Coconut oil, Fish oil and Olive oils.
Can you eat Tuna or canned Salmon. You might want to try adding them too.

Congrats on your loss Pandora23

I will do that jagbender as I don't have a hard time drinking water

try adding Flax oil for fat and calories.

I use flax seed on my food but not oil and I cook with Olive oil, should I change over to Virgin Coconut oil?

are you taking Fish oil Supplements?

No I'm not can you recommend a brand. I can't stomach the taste of fish, tuna, salmon :( However I do like lobster

You might want to shift from the Sat fats to the high Omega 3 fats.

Which means eating fish right? ewe! Will the fish oil supplements provide the Omega 3 fats?

Thank you

im guessing if u just started riding your bike, you're still losing fat, but building muscle, which is why u dont see a change in the scale, but still feel like you're losing inches. no worries- dont be discouraged. keep up the great work! :)

Jagbender?

You answered a previous post of mine but I had a few more questions :)

You should not cook with Virgin Coconut oil.
Flax seeds are not digestable by humans, Flax meal is.
Flax oil is better. I also eat flax meal daily.
Fish oil supps ? I get Fish Oil Omega 3 at Wal mart pretty cheap.
I used to "burp" fishy taste at first but I find that is you take it first thing in the AM and then eat it helps.
Why is everything that is good for you (oily fishes Salmon, Tuna sardines) taste so bad. I love lobster too but it doesn't have the healthful benifits of Omega 3 oils.

Killer post, Jag. Listen to everything he said about the fats.

I take 6 g fish oil daily, sometimes as many as 15 if I feel I need it.

Coconut oil is really wonderful stuff, too, but olive oil is good too. How about this: use olive oil in your salads, fry in coconut oil.(edited to say Jag doesn't like the idea of cooking with coconut oil. How come Jag? Some problem with the effectiveness of the oil?) (re-edited to say no problem with cooking with coconut oil, but FLAX oil should stay raw)

And the bike riding/muscle thing - you really won't build up much muscle riding a bike. You won't burn THAT much fat, either, but it does help a bit. I suspect that newly-used muscles get a bit inflamed, though, and this inflammation is basically your tissues holding water. It WILL pass as the lactic acid works its way out of your muscles, and as it leaves, the water will also.

If you start exercising and you GAIN weight right away, it's not muscle. You really can't gain muscle faster than you can drop fat - not when you first start, anyway.

A woman doing EVERYTHING she can to deliberabely TRY to pack on as much muscle as she can MIGHT be able to put on 10-15 pounds of muscle in her first year of HEAVY resistance training (I know, because I've done this). On the other hand, I lost over 30 pounds of fat in my first year on Atkins.

Stalls don't always mean what they seem to mean - you CAN be tightening up at the same rate you are dropping water and fat from time to time, so use a pair of tight jeans as a goalpoast.

Your weight WILL fluctuate, and for women, this is particularly irritating since we have "tides" lol!

But if you are cutting (IE NOT deliberately bulking) and your weight goes UP and stays there for over a week, it's probably not muscle, and it's probably not water either.

I think I was confusing cooking with flax oil.
I just spend some trying to find out why I thought that and I found a couple of sites that recommend cooking with VCO.
Good catch Built.

Oh, okay about the coconut oil. Cool.

Flax oil should probably not be cooked because it would affect the EFAs in a negative way, but I don't think coconut oil has this problem. Coconut oil can take fairly high temperatures too.
And of course, nothing beats frying in butter.

TwilightZ Tue, May-18-04 13:13

Coconut oil actually promotes weight loss--excellent for cooking. Olive oil in excess can do the opposite. IMO olive oil sparingly on salads.

I know about coconut oil promoting weight loss because of the MCTs, and I know about polyunsaturates like corn and canola oil being bad news because they slow thyroid output, but what does olive oil do to slow weight loss? I had not heard this about monounsaturates.

Cheyanne Tue, May-18-04 13:56

Flax seeds are not digestable by humans, Flax meal is.

Oops that's what I meant, flax meal.

Fish oil supps ? I get Fish Oil Omega 3 at Wal mart pretty cheap.

Something to look forward too..."burping" Will pick up some today.

How about this: use olive oil in your salads, fry in coconut oil

Thanks Built I'll try switching from Olive oil to Coconut oil for fry.

I suspect that newly-used muscles get a bit inflamed, though, and this inflammation is basically your tissues holding water. It WILL pass as the lactic acid works its way out of your muscles, and as it leaves, the water will also.

My muscles aka fat  are definately newly-used :)

On the other hand, I lost over 30 pounds of fat in my first year on Atkins.

And look at you, you look awesome :)

Thank you everyone for responding, this board is wonderful. :bhug:
