Sweet Taste while drinking Water
I keep getting this sweet tast on the tip of my tounge while drinking water. I have heard of the metallic taste but never the seet taste. What does this taste mean? Where is it comming from?
Its a fairly strong sweet taste also. I kinda reminds me of the time that i first put splenda on my tounge to see what it tasted like. |
Water Yummy!
I used to hate drinking pure water when I was thirsty. Always wanted when younger sugar soda and then older sugar iced tea. Water was so bland and uninteresting. When I went on Atkins I forced myself to drink only water. Well wouldn't you know it I gained a taste for it and now love it. Funny you mentioned the sweet taste - that is what happened to me. Now it tastes a little sweet. This happens with all brands of spring water I drink.
Beer was even more dramatic. Although a fan of beers with strong taste like lagers I could stand a Budweiser. Now though Budweiser tatses way too sweet. It is hard to believe - just deprive yourself of sugar and then like in my case my sense of sweetness is increased. Same thing with Strawberries - my wife can not understand how I can eat raw strawberries without sugar. They taste sweet to me. |
My tap water does not taste like that to me, but bottled water does.

i have no noticed that but i have just started so I will make sure I watch out for that though

Great Bear and Deer Park bottled water taste sweet to me.
I only notice it when I am in ketosis. I figure its something to do with that. Almost everything tastes sweet to me now though. |
I noticed that too. Even romaine lettuce tastes sweet to me now. :)

Yeah, I get the sweet water thing as well.... sometimes too when I'm drinking water it feels to me like I'm drinking milk.... sometimes so much so that I have to double check the glass is clear :)

I'm glad i am not the only one. I thought it might be my body telling me i need more sugar or something. I actually enjoy the taste. I have still not tasted the metallic taste but that could be because i have a peice of metal behind my two front teeth holding the gap closed (just got braces off).
It does taste a little like sugar milk. Sometimes it is extreemly strong. Does anyone know what is causing this. Is it from drinking so much water or is it from reducing the carbs? |
I also get a sweet taste

I read about the sweet taste........something about being on the high fat/protien with low carb does it to you. There's even a term for it....something like "sweet breath", I can't exactly remember. In addition, after about 6 or so months they say your stools become smaller and lose the offensive odor.....I'm all good with that one!!! |
hmm..I have noticed it too...not always...just every now and then. It doesnt even seem to have a pattern...like all day or for an entire jug of water...just every now and then. I was hoping a moderator would pop onto the thread and clue us in! I am very interested now!

Those are ketones you are smelling/tasting. Your are most likely in benign dietary ketosis. This means your body is burning fat! :):):)

At first i thought there was something wrong with my water :) I poured it out and bought a new filter. Same taste... Now that i know its ketosis i am simply craving more sweet tasting flavors in my mouth... I just double my water intake. This isnt going to hurt is it?
My next move is to stop looking at the scale every morning. |
Squintz,
According to Atkins if you up the water intake it helps with the sweet taste and ketosis odor. Is sugar free gum okay? I know I chew a lot of sugar free gum. I know there are a few carbs in it but I find it hard to give up gum. Candyless |

d'oh! Why didn't I think of that! I've been on Atkins for long enough to know better! At the start I always used to have a reassuring metallic ketosis taste in my mouth, but that went away, but I taste water as sweet loads :) /me hangs head in shame :o |
