Please help! On day 3 and I dont understand carb counting!

I looked in the book (the new one) at the sample induction menus. Those menus dont add up to 20 grams carbs.
So I'm thinking maybe you dont subtract fiber in induction? But the book clearly says to subtract fiber when "doing atkins".
If I add more carbs to get 20 (while subtracting fiber) then that is about quadruple the amount of food in the sample menus.
I am so confused. And another thing....the little handy carb counter that comes in the front of the book- the fiber isnt subtracted there. This card is removable to take with you. If you were suppossed to subtract fiber, wouldnt that be listed on that card?

I know some subtract fiber and some dont. I want to go by the book(if I ever figure out what that is.) Is it true that in the first book, you didnt subtract fiber? Was it still 20 grams in induction?

This is a copy of a typical day on induction. I calculated my carbs for the day. In the book, it says to have 20 carbs. I only have 8.3!
What did I do wrong today? I think my menu looks ok....
I feel energetic and am not hungry. I am happy with this amount of food.

Breakfast:
3 eggs
3 slices bacon

Lunch:
rotisserie chicken
2 cups romaine
2 tbsp caesar dressing

Snacks:
string cheese
deviled eggs

Dinner:
steak
2 cups romaine(oil and vinegar)
brocolli, 1 cup

Please help!
(btw, I did count carbs in eggs, dressing, and cheese)
I used the carb counts in the book, not fitday

I've just put your lettuce and broccoli into Fitday and it comes out at 10 carbs. So with the extra bits, would that push up towards 20?
It looks like you have a good induction menu there. Goodness knows why the Aktins count doesn't work.

I started with Atkins induction and I have to say, I used Fitday to count my carbs, cos it did the maths for me and I could have as varied menus as I liked.

Good luck with it!

Hi Skipper
I found that really confusing about the book too! In one place, the carbs are counted with the fiber, and one without it. It doesn't make much sense. I have been using FitDay, and I notice it seems to not subtract the fiber.
Even with the contradictions, it still seems like a great way of eating. I am very happy with it so far!
Take care,
Sandy

So if you are using fitday, it doesnt subtract the fiber?

I'm trying to make this plan fit my lifestyle. Fitday doesnt fit my lifestyle cause I'm always on the go. I really want to learn how to do this without having to use fitday.

Honestly, if you are getting your carbs from lettuce and veggies, don't worry about it too much.

Originally, Atkins did not subtract fiber from the carb total, but since 2000, he does. It's possible that the edition you read needs some more careful editing to fit the new way (and they missed a couple of places.)

The menu from the book looks fine. If you are losing and not hungry, then don't worry about the lettuce amounts.
