loss of appetite

Hello~!!
I'm on my 2nd day of induction, and have already lost my appetite.

Last time I was on it, I also had loss of appetite, as I wasn't feeling hungry.
I normally have reduced appetite when stressed, and I'm quite stressed out at the moment as well.

I know that I have to eat plenty of fats and proteins to go into ketosis. Do I have to force myself to eat?

For breakfast today I had 2 eggs, with mayo & celery with mozarella cheese melted on top
for lunch today, I had 2 cherry tomatoes and a half of cucumber.
For dinner all I can face at the moment is the left over cucumber.
Is this way too low in calories?

That is all you ate?! Yeah you deffinatly need to eat more, this is not a calorie restriciting diet, so dont even try it. I know you have loss of appetite, so you are going to have to be creative and figure out some foods that you just love that might be appealing, everyone on this site has really great ideas

Hi Loz,

I think you know very well that the food you describe is way too low in calories. You need at least 1300 calories (5400 kilojoules) daily. You would barely have had 400 cals there.
Atkins is NOT a low calorie diet.

You need a whole lot more protein or you are going to lose a major amount of muscle. You already know that I think you are scarily close to eating disorder territory - please don't prove me right by eating so little.

Try to eat some protein with every meal. A small can of tuna in oil for example. And cheese is great - it has protein and fat.

You may need to force yourself a little. I realise that may be difficult, but eating as little as you have there will drop your metabolism before you know it.

Just remind yourself that your appetite will soon return. You'll be surprised how quickly it will return as long as you eat a bit more. And you will feel a whole lot better too, once you eat more. The 1300 cals is the bare minimum you should be eating.

All the best (I still worry about you :bhug: )

One of the benefits of ketosis is loss of appetite which I also am experiencing Day 2 but doubt I am in ketosis...(could it be we are??).

But yes, like the others say, you must keep up with the protein...make sure you take a good multi vit/mineral formula or you will feel crappy and have muscle aches. Add some cheese, tuna, meats....all great sources of protein. Good luck. :wiggle:
