Flax o Meal
Hi everyone..
Does anyone know if there are any hidden carbs in this? It says 2 g of digestible carbs..but after learning what I did about the bars and shakes..I am leary.. thanks, Laura |
Laura,
I haven't used flax o meal but looked up the ingredients. From what I saw it looks pretty good. From what I know those "hidden carbs" are mostly found in sugar alcohols. I didn't see any in the flax o meal cereal so I think you're safe. I know LC Sponge uses flax seed. If she doesn't get around to this post you may just want to post it on her journal. ;) Maybe she also knows about flax o meal. Take care, Heather |
Heather...
thanks, I think I will try some and see how it is. Today is day 3, and I am doing pretty good. I feel better already, if that is possible..after only 3 days! Laura |
Better believe it is possible! This is the only way of eating I know of that produces results this fast!!!
Enjoy! |
Great Discussion on this earlier
I love flax-o-meal and eat it every morning now. Not only does it taste great but it has helped me be more regular! :p
Last month there was a great discussion on this product that I will try to include here. http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthre...light=flaxomeal It gave me the courage to actually attempt to make my own. For about $3.50 I came up with the equivalent of about 2 bags. I wasn't really sure of the ratio of ingredients, so I just kept mixing until it looked close to the real thing. (I am so inept in the kitchen, it's not even funny!!). Anyhow, it's a great product and I'm glad to see others who enjoy it as well! Take care, K. |
With winter here I'd love to have a hot cereal recipe. Please share your secret with us. What is your recipe for home made flax o meal?
Thanks, Heather |
Digestable Carbs?
I found the Flax O Meal and was going to order it..but the carb count says 12 g. But, it only says it has 2 g of digestible carbs. Does that mean that I count 2 or 12? I just dont want to over do it...
|
It is really only 2 carbs. because the other 10 are fiber. I remember someone saying once that humans don't digest/ break down fiber so we just don't count it! Easy enough for me. ;)
Enjoy your flax o meal!!! Dr. Atkins says" fiber is good for your digestive system and a legitimate deduction from your carbohydrate totals." pg.285 |
Coming from Ms. Inept in the Kitchen
Heather,
In the link I included previously is a recipe from IslandGirl. She sounds much more capable and experienced in the kitchen than pathetic ol' me, so you would want to try hers. I can't remember what the measurements were for mine, but it was something like: 5 cups wheat bran 5 cups flaxseed meal (I bought a cheap little coffee grinder to grind it myself) 1 cup soy protein isolate 1/4 cup cinnamon 1 Tblsp nutmeg I store it in the frig and serve myself about a half cup with AS, butter, and heavy cream---sometimes SF vanilla syrup. Again, I am pretty inept, but it worked for me, so maybe you can take and improve on this!! :-) Take care, K. |
THANK-YOU so much! I'm sure it'll be great!!!
WOO HOO!!! I can eat cereal! :cheer: Heather |
hmmmmmm
Just a quick question or two, but did either of you use the LowCarb Tools: Hidden Carb Inspector on the orange menu bar at 6the top of the page? It's way cool and very helpful.
I think it's a good product, myself, but wanted to remind you about this cool tool... :D PS: there's also a few hot cereal recipes available in the LowCarb Kitchen Forum and the Readers' Recipes webpage, eh? |
Hi Y'all!!!
I created the FlaxOmeal cereal and I can assure you the carb count is correct. We sent it away for analysis and it came back exactly as we thought. Usually hidden carbs are found in the "ols"...Maltitol, etc. And yes, you can deduct the fiber for the digestable carb count....and believe me, it will really keep things moving. :-) Happy Lowcarbing, Julee |
See?!? It's not EVERY day you got a product manufacturer shipping things off for Lab Tests (you should PUBLISH that fact, Flaxie! It's WAY important for LCers to know), or participating in these Forums, either!
 Happy Happy! |
