Need some good "toothless" menu ideas...

I'm going in for oral surgery in a few weeks (all of my top teeth extracted) and any suggestions that you might have to help me stick to the plan would be greatly appreciated. :)

I'm going to need to eat soft foods for a week or two, but I want to get as balanced a diet as I can during this period. The only thing that I've come up with so far are the mock potatoes and broccoli soup. Other than that, I'm going to have to find a way to keep my fat and protien up.

Any help you can offer and I will be forever in your debt. :)

Thanks.

Hi Angi,

One thing I found when I had an infected tooth recently was that you can puree anything! ;)

I would cook a piece of steak, say, and chuck it into the food processor with a bit of cream, and some herbs or maybe some tomato. And then blend all my cooked vegies separately, so I wasn't eating one big bunch of mush.

Have a look at the Soups section in our recipe forums for more imaginative ideas, but remember if you have a food processor you can just eat your normal meals, just much mushier. :)

All the best for your surgery, I hope it all goes well for you. :there:

Pull out that crockpot!

You can stew chicken in canned broth, or chuck in beef broth and add some of your favourite veggies in the last hour for yummy stews etc. You can even cook spareribs in the crockpot for a very tender delish dinner.

Puree avocado or soft tofu in hot chicken broth for an instant soup. Then, there's always scrambled eggs! :)

Soft foods...

Chicken broth with scrambled egg stirred into the hot broth
Cottage cheese
Pureed cream of veggie soup with cheese
Scrambled eggs
Protein shakes
Sugar-free jello with whipped cream
Sugar-free jello with cream cheese whipped in
Flax-O-meal or homemade flax cereal (check recipe section)
Mock danish? (not sure that one will be soft enough)
Homemade sugar-free popsicles
Sugar-free custard

Lots and lots of TLC! Hope your recovery is a quick one!

I had some surgery a couple of months ago, and I had been on Atkins for a month at the time, and I was very concerned about backtracking when I was recouperating. I lost another 4 pounds!!!

I did a lot of research before hand and had a lot of ideas on what to eat. One great thing for me then was unsweetened soy milk, which I doctored up with splenda and vanilla or other flavorings. It is very high in fiber, and really gave me a full feeling. You can drink it hot or cold.

I also had a lot of soup, especially a delicious cream of spinach.

Since I wasn't moving, I was very concerned about staying low calorie, and it turned out well. You can make this work to your advantage!!!

spaghetti squash and sauce with parmasean cheese.

Hope all goes well with your surgery. You probably won't feel up to much anyway, so get some shakes on hand and pre-make some soup so you can just nuke it.
