17 grms of carbs & 898 calories a day

I know the carb count is ok but the calories are too low arent they? I cant very well eat much more since I will be stuffed! Help or is this okay.

I upped my calorie intake by adding fat. Add some butter or olive oil or mayonaise to some of the stuff you are eating, you will be suprised how quickly you can bring it up. I was scared of the fats before because of the low-fat conditioning I received pretty much my whole life, but that helped me alot!!

looks like you should be getting about 900 more calories, dear.

Way, way too low. Try to double it! The suggestion of adding fat is a good one. Fat is calorie-heavy and easy to add to your diet. Think salad dressings, mayo, olive oil or butter on your veggies, heavy cream, a spoonful of cream cheese for dessert...

THanks for the replies

I can cook the scallops in butter & eat some more almonds. Funny thing is before I could get 2000 calories in half a day! Now I cant even hit 1000! Im not the least bit hungry either! Im going to stop the beer for a while & see if it really does or doesnt make a difference. If I had a few beers that would be almost 300 more calories--LOL - hmmmmmmmmmm, thinking about that now! I suppose I can find something more to eat with no carbs but high calories!

mmmmmmmmm, I love cream cheese! Good idea!

I was having the same problem a while ago and a suggestion was Macadamia nuts. They are high in calories and low in carbs. I eat some most days now.

Hi streakymom!

You drink BEER and still claim you're under 17 carbs a day?!
How much beer do you have, a thimble a week? :D

/gil - former beer lover

One thing that was holding me back at first was the low fat thing I talked about before... eat that roasted chicken skin too!!!

adkpam Tue, Oct-28-03 12:50

Bizarre, isn't it? To be told to eat MORE fat?
Yet I averaged 70% fat since I've been Atkinsing, and the results speak for themselves.

That is hilarious....I found lo carb mich ultra, but havent found the no carb beer yet!....

Mich Ultra and Miller Lite both have about 3 carb. grams per 12 oz. Most other beers aren't all that much higher anyway. Afterall, it's basically just water and alcohol. Don't see anything wrong with having a drink or two ocassionally. Hasn't really hurt my progress. :agree:

I drink beer too, that is why I was so interested in the no carb beer....hehehehe

I actually had/have the same issue. Getting my carbs in but my calories are way too low. Its getting better now though as I am less afraid to eat fats. I aim for 1500 a day. I usually get somewhere between 1100 to 1550 a day, but its going there, and YES I know you are never hungry lol. I am not a fan of mayo or butter but I am adding small amounts of mayo mixed with mustard to make a sauce for me and eat that with roasted chicken or turkey slices. I also add some flax oil, olive oil and flax seeds and try and eat more salmon.
Not to mention I have developed a cheese addiction I am trying to break. I think all the years of eating fat free fake cheese turned me off to it and now eating real cheese just tastes SO good lol I need to watch it.

Well, where I come from we don't have any LC beer, only "standard" beer, which contains a whooping 12.5 netcarbs per 12 oz. I've exchanged beer for rum on the rocks (zero carbs!) and the odd glass of wine now and then instead. But oh, how I long for that chilled czech sometimes...
