Where did these cravings come from?

Hello and Happy New Year-
Well, I guess we don't have to reveal our resolutions on this site, being that we're probably all in the same boat, right?! I'm excited knowing that this is going to be the start of a new me. I figured that I have to lose just a little over 1 lb per week in order to get to my goal on June 1st. That's pretty exciting, since I figure I can do that...hopefully! I just got through a day of irritation and extreme cravings. I have only been on this WOL for about 6 days now. I was doing great for the 1st 4 days, then yesterday, all I could think about was candy, chocolate, etc...and I was in a very crabby mood. (No not PMSing) I figure it must have something to do with being a new low-carber. I did drink a diet vanilla coke. Could that have spurred my hankerings? I didn't give in though, which may be the source of my frustration!haha I weighed in at the same weight this morning. I was afraid it might go up, but I'm the same. I was very happy to see that. I can't wait to lose a little again.
ANYWAY-
Good Luck to all of you in the New Year, I'll be right here with you!

Hello Kristin

Hello and welcome! I have been doing this about a month and still crave the sweets! I even messed up last week on christmas and am now going through a few days of "detoxifying" myself with induction. I'm not giving up though. This site is very informative and supportive. You'll love it. Good Luck to you! Oh yeah.. and I still drink the diet Mt. dew and I'm doing fine... sooo far anyhow..

Hi Kristen (and Shannon),

Many folk find that eating a snack with plenty of protein and fat (eg tuna & mayo) can help deal with cravings.

I've found that the dreaded cravings can be prevented by taking regular L-Glutamine. Chromium is said to be useful, too. Certainly worth trying.

And yes, it's well possible that the vanilla diet Coke started the whole thing off. It's a good idea to completely eschew anything sweet, even artificially sweetened until you really get into this WOE.

HTH!

Thanks for the info!

Shannonlea-
Thank you, I'm glad to know I'll be able to sneak in a few diet cokes every now and then. I never imagined that I would drink one though. Now that I've been away from regular cokes for a little while, the diet vanilla isn't half bad! :yum: I've read some of your journal and even put you on my buddy list incase I have questions for you. I have three girls and I'm 29 years old. I noticed that your stats were somewhat similar to mine. I'm glad you dropped me a line.
Talk to you again soon,
Kristen

Rosebud-
Thank you for the tips, I'll write those down and go to the health food store. ANYTHING would have helped that day, I'm sure! I did start nibbling on some pieces of pepperoni today when I got the munchies. I think it's a good idea and it's worked! I'm really having a good time with this. This is the first "diet" that has seemed to not seem so devistating to my mind and body. It's definately a WOL that I could live with.
Thanks again,
Kristen
