Liberty Yogurt and new Choices location

I had emailed Liberty Yogurt company and got a reply today. They put me in touch with their distributor here, National Cheese, who have told me that the Liberty products are sold at:

- Choices (new one near me at 6855 Station Hill Drive, Burnaby)

- Safeways large enough to have a Natural Food section (eg the one near Coquitlam Center) AND

- their own deli outlet, located at 7525 Byrne Road, Burnaby. Hours are 8:30 to 4:30 M-F and 9 - 2 on Sat.

The most-helpful woman at National Cheese also described kefir to me - I think I may try this product too, depending if I can find out what the carb count is.

Just thought I'd pass on the info :)

Kefir

Hi jeanyyy, :)
Could you give me the description she made of Kefir? I bought some last week, did not try it yet... the nutrition information per 125ml serving of the plain kind is :
cal: 64
protein:4.5g
fat:2.5g
carb:6g

The ingredients are : partially skim organic milk, bacterial culture

What I am wondering is... can we calculate the carb count the same way we do with yogurt since there is live bacteria in it? 4g/cup?

The texture is more liquid then yogurt, I think it would make a great shake...

have a nice LC day!
Zab :)

There's a ton of really helpful discussion on kefir and yogurt (making of, carb counting of, etc. etc.) in the Candida forum.

Also, a quick SEARCH (using the little globe on the upper right of your screen) for "kefir" should get you the great info already shared fairly quickly.

Hope this helps.

Zab, all she mentioned to me about kefir was that it was full of active cultures, fairly liquid and that when you drink it, you can feel a kind of "zapping" in your mouth (she called em "little critters").. Sounded kinda interesting to me.

Thanks IslandGirl! I will check it out! :)

Jeanyyy: I tried it, and I really like it, it's true that there is this special sensation in your mouth. I searched a bit on the web and I found out that the bacteries in kefir multiply at room temperature in 24h, so yesterday I took about a cup of kefir, put it in a bottle on the counter and added milk ... today, I had a whole bottle of kefir waiting for me!

have a great day
Zab :)
