Cruising in May

I'm sure I'll ask this again before we go, but we're going on a Carnival cruise in May. I'm scared to death of the cruise food (been there, done that)! Has anybody been on a cruise and successfully been able to stay with Atkins? I'm not to worried about breakfast (buffet), but I know what lunch and dinner are like! I welcome any suggestions!

I think Carnival is the one that actually offers Atkins cruises. While you may not be taking one of those, contact the cruise line before your departure and inform them you are on a special diet. If you give them warning, most cruise lines are more then accomidating. After all making your trip the best possible means word of mouth and repeat customers.

There will be alot of temptations, constant buffets and dessert bars, but if you have SF desserts it may not be as bad.

You might also check out moving to CAD for a bit. That would mean no snacks and 2 meals very strict (more so then ATkins) but you could have a regular dinner. The no snacking would be hard though.

Most cruises also have exercise rooms, a pool maybe, or at least a ton of decks to walk. Get your hinnie in gear and burn off any extra carbs :)

Oh, the walking is a definite! I've worked my way up to an hour over the last few weeks and feel so much better already! My CD player will probably be the first on my list of things I pack. I can walk while I people-watch.

Best advice Stay away from the buffets, eat all your meals in the dining room.

I'm on CAD and have had no problem staying on program on any cruise or vacation.

Basically I would have meat and eggs for breakfast, meat and veggies for lunch and and reg. dinner in 1 hour.

I have been on a few cruises and the buffets are nice because I can order a hamburger without the bun or any other meat. They usually have lots of veggies and salads to choose from. Bacon, sausage, and fresh egg omlets for breakfeast. Dinnertime was bad for me because they really couldn't do anything special or substitute-all dinners are premade.

Hi, I haven't been on a cruise before but I did just have a vacation at an all inclusive in Jan. I did cheat, but not as badly as I would have thought. I kind of approached everything with a "will this be worth it?" philosophy and other than white chocolate bread I was able to pretty much stay on Atkins. (The other cheat was tonic in vodka tonics. Who knew how many carbs tonic has!) I guess the trick will be just not having food in front of you constantly. Ours was an active vacation so this was pretty easy for me. If you do cheat don't be too hard on yourself, it was pretty easy to climb back on the wagon again after the vacation was over. Have fun!

Buffets are great. You can pick and choose what you want. We went to a Casino where they had a HUGE buffet. I just ate what I knew I could have and still had LOTS of variation.
