Do we just get used to ketosis symptoms?

I should start by saying that I don't use the keto-strips, so I can't be sure whether I am in ketosis or not. But I've been following Atkins pretty stictly (wine being my downfall, although usually only on weekends). In the beginning I definitely noticed some of the signs of ketosis (most especially the stinky sweat! ). But these days I don't notice that any more. Does this mean that I'm just used to the smell? Or that I'm no longer in ketosis? And if I'm not in ketosis, does this mean I won't be losing?

would appreciate any thoughts!

If your carbs are low... (are you still at induction levels) than you should be in ketosis. You can lose though even if you aren't.

Just remember two important things:

1) your body will burn alcohol before fat so wine will slow you down (even stalls some)

2) HURRAY! You are close to goal so you will lose slower for that reason alone.

Why don't you start a journal to show us some menus, that will help figure out what is going on better.

Great question - I've been wondering the same thing. My normal tin can breath seems better and I'm worried it means I'm not going to lose anymore.

Thanks Lisa, I've actually got a journal going. I do limit the wine to the weekends most of the time, and I really do limit the carbs (although I've recently upped the good ones a little). But I just don't stink the way I used to - and weirdly enough I'm worried about it!

I'm happy to take this slowly since its so easy, but I just want to make sure that I'm doing things right.

thanks so much for your input!

We may get used to our keto breath, but I'm not sure our friends do! My kids are always telling me I have bad breath, and I don't even notice it anymore. So now I chew Orbit sugarless gum. That stuff should kill any odor.

I've been losing steadily (8 to 10 pounds a month) without noticing any obvious signs of ketosis (and I am sure my husband would not hesitate to tell me if he thought I had bad breath). I haven't tried strips because I don't really care if I am in ketosis or not as long as I am losing. If you are losing weight, I wouldn't worry about whether or not you are in ketosis.

One of the best signs that you ARE in ketosis is that you are not hungry and you may even have to remind yourself to eat something. If you are losing pounds or if your clothes are getting looser, you are in ketosis.

And when you get used to not being hungry, but one day you really WANT to eat a lot of meat, it may mean that you will lose the next day. That's how it works with me.

I haven't been losing, but there is no question that my clothes are MUCH looser (yay!), so I'm pretty happy about how things are going. But sure, like everyone else, I'd love to see the scale move down. What I've mostly heard is that since I'm so close to my goal, it may just take a while for it to happen. I just wondered if the missing ketosis symptoms might have something to do with it.

Thanks to everyone for your responses. They really helped set my mind at ease.

I have had ketobreath since March of this year..it's definately still there..very noticeable to myself still..urine is very strong smelling also..and no hunger...but i've never even heard of 'smelly sweat' being one of the signs of ketosis..must have missed that one :)
