Yogurt- Looking for Blue Bunny

I read that blue bunny yogurt is the lowest in carbs...but i don't think it is sold in Canada...anybody know?
What is the lowest safe yogurt for us to eat...i'm overwhelmed with the amount of brands...i found one that is plain natural 175 g. per serving 0.1 g fat, 11.4 g carbs is this one safe ?

With low-carbing, yogurt that is high in fat, low in carbs and that is made with two live cultures is the way to go. A natural, set yogurt is the best to use. Check Astro Balkan style and Liberty for the numbers. Liberty sour cream is also very good.

It sounds like the one you're looking at is a low-fat brand.

You can also make your own using whipping cream.

Hey, WayDown.

No BlueBunny in Canada.

For flavoured and sweetened, try the Astro FatFree (also sugarfree, sweetened with aspartame). Watch out for other "sugarfree" brands, all the ones I've checked, when I could find them, had fructose in 'em.

President's Choice T.G.T.B.T. 1% (Plain) is a good natural yogurt with 4 different cultures in it that also happens to be low-fat, at Real Canadian Superstore/Loblaw's.

I USUALLY use (out here in the West) either the Astro Natural (2% or more), Jersey Farms 5% or Olympic Balkan Style (3.9%), available in most stores; I don't think the last two are available in the East though, maybe not even out of B.C.

The Liberty and Stoneyfield Farms brands are good but a bit out of my price range for regular use.

I often make my own, using either goat milk or cream or whole organic milk if I can get it and I'm feeling energetic :D

RE: Blue Bunney Lite 85 Yogurt

The Blue Bunny Lite 85 Yogurt as depicted in the attached link is a brand name of dairy products found in Walmart Stores in the US..ie ice cream, novelty bars etc...I checked for this item when I was in Florida this winter and unfortunately at the Walmart superstore I inquired they carried most Blue Bonnet yogurts except Lite 85 made with Splenda...

This may have been updated in another thread but wanted to let folks know in the Melbourne, Fla area that the Walmart superstore now carries this yogurt in flavors too numerous to name..tried the coconut cream pie today and have to say :yum: am also seeing ice cream products being made with Splenda here now as well..B

Blue Bunny: Be Advised

I love this stuff... it is creamy and tasty, but it has modified food starch in it... that doesn't sound like it is entirely apropos for LC-ing... I sent an inquiry to the company, but I haven't heard back from them.

Personally, I stay in trace ketosis when I eat the yogurt, and I blend it with cottage cheese (it's not as bad as it sounds). Lately, I've been sprinkling a few teaspoons of Extra Fiber All Bran (7g per 1/2 cup) on top too. Its a pretty good brekkie when I just can't do eggs again.

YMMV on your comfort level with the starch issue.

I just need a clarification...yogurt that is only ~11 carbs per serving is not bad? I would appreciate any information. Thanks

It doesn't have that many actual carbs because the active cultures eat the sugar. Read:

The Yogurt Exception

So what that means is....

I read the article and let me see if I have this straight....

I looked at Dannon plain yogurt in the store, and if I recall, it had about 11 g of sugar per serving. But in actuality, it would have much less than that because the bacteria actually eats the sugar????

If this is the case, I am going to go buy some!!!

Thanks for anyone who can answer my question!

Hi, there, Products Moderator here.

There are some excellent discussions on the value of NATURAL yogurt without additives, etc., how it is made and labelled, and why it's good for you and not as carby as it sounds... have a look in the Kitchen Forum and/or the Health & Technical:Candida & Yeast Forum and/or BEST option, use the SEARCH feature on the upper right with the little globe and search those forums for 'yogurt' threads.

It will vary by brand, but you want to find the shortest, cleanest Ingredient List you can (you know: milk ingredients, active bacterial cultures...), then you make a thumbnail estimate that the carbs are actually half of what is on the label.

Enjoy your research and hope this helps.

THANK YOU!

Thanks for the information! I will do that now!
