Sausage

I am new to the Atkins Diet and I read that I should watch out for nitrates and sugars in sausages. After going to the grocery store I was discouraged because all the sausages I saw had just that in them. Any suggestions on brands that I could by that little or none of the nitrates or sugar in them.

P.S. I love Polish Sausauge but the Hillshire Farms product had sugar and nitrates. HELP and what about the Jimmy Deans??

It IS hard to find sugar-free products (LCing really raises our awareness about the extent of sugar addiction/overuse in this way!) I buy sausage and bacon at the health food store--additive and sugar free. I also make my own breakfast and pizza sausages, with a mixture of ground pork and ground beef (one could use ground lamb or ground turkey or ground venison as well). I experiment with spicing, but sage, caraway seed, and garlic powder all work well...and there are many recipes on the web for sausages. HTH!

Hello,

I also could not find sausage that was free from sugar or nitrates.. But ill give you a hint.. You can either go to a butcher shop and ask for them to make you some sausage with ground pork, sage, black pepper and salt... I had 10 lbs made up for me and it is great.. Better than any you can buy in the store.. But of course its depends on your taste if you like it hot add some red peppers or cyane pepper.. to taste of course

or you can make your own by buying ground pork in your grocery store and adding your own ingredients...

My kids said it was the best sausage they have ever eaten and I like it because it has no nitrates or sugar added...

Hope this help

Tammy
