Went to Starbucks, got creative

Hi all,

I wasn't sure where to share this (which board) so I'm putting it here for now, knowing it will probably be moved to a more appropriate board by a moderator.

Anyway, I was really dying for a Starbucks fix and knowing that the majority of their drinks are off limits, I got a bit creative and thought I'd share.

I took a tall travel tumbler with me and asked them to fill it to the very top with ice. Then I ordered the medium sized decaf brewed coffee that they were offering today. They normally have only the 1/2 & 1/2 out, but I asked about heavy cream and sure enough they had it in their fridge. So I doctored my hot coffee up with the HC and a few Splenda packets I keep in my purse, got it tasting just right for me, and then dumped it over the ice (I love iced coffee drinks). It was immediately very cold and about half the ice was remaining. Now I know it's not the same as a Frap or Mocha, but it was still AWESOME!

The carb content would depend on how much cream and Splenda you used and since I like mine light, it turned about to be about 5 grams. But then again, I had about 2 grams at breakfast, so I figured I could justify this.

Thought I'd share.

Sounds yummy! Good job asking for heavy cream... I guess they assume no one would want the thick stuff. Yum! :yum:

YUM...

I make those at home also! What a great treat for those days when you just need something...maybe I should go make one now! :D

Yeah, except I've been asking them for over 2 years to get some form of SF chocolate (all they offer currently is SF vanilla and it's awful IMO--at least in the drinks I've tried). If they had SF choc syrup, once a LCer was past the early stages, s/he could enjoy a SF mocha once in a while in the Starbucks "atmosphere," which is hard to emulate at home. I've written the request on comment cards, called the corp office, written in via their website.... nada.

Anyway, I mostly love Starbucks, but wish they would get their act together on the SF chocolate front! How hard could it be?

Gee, I wish my Starbucks experience would have been like
yours. All I got was the "what are you talking about lady"
stares. All they told me was they had what was on their
condiment counter at the exit and thats what I did. EXITED!

I have called their corp office about posting their carb counts,
sf products etc. I guess this is just not in their future.
I know friends that have also asked for "point" calculations
and the company said they will not do that.

Anyways, its homemade for me. Plus alot cheaper too!

Thanks Amy for the recipe.

If you do a search of the forum for 'Starbucks' I know there's a link to a site that lists the carb counts for all kinds of Starbucks drinks. I THINK it was something like '2fat ladies' site??? Sorry!

I've had (a few times only) a mocha breve (cream) with sf vanilla syrup. Delicious when you want/need the Starbucks fix.

I remember asking this question on the forum a long time ago. Starbucks is my favourite!!! I think NAT said that a short breve(pronounced brehvay) latte at Starbucks is 8 carbs. They make this with half and half cream. Just ask for a short breve latte and they SHOULD know what they are doing. If they don't, just tell them you want a latte made with half and half. They may look at you weird, but stick to your guns. The people that work in Starbucks here seem to have their act together and know what they are talking about. And if you want heavy cream to put in your coffee, just ask them. All they have to do is reach into their fridge and hand you the carton!!!

That's a treat for me now...but in the earlier days of LC'ing, when I thought "legal" foods were a free-for-all I was in Starbucks for a breve all the time!

Wow, can that half & half add up!! Not that we "count" calories or anything... but yikes, stick to the small size if it's a yummy habit!

I'm really excited about that first recipe...going to try that one today!

Close to Starbucks!

I really miss Starbucks :( . I live 3 mins away from one. I was staying away because I was really into the sweet kind of drinks that they offer. I think I will give the short breve latte a try. ;)

mnickle thanks for the link to the Starbucks nutritional breakdown.

So, what is the Breve exactly? It has 1/2 and 1/2, the SF vanilla, and what else??? I'm trying to figure this out. I had a SF vanilla latte recently and I thought it was awful. I'd rather make something at home and sneak it in if I'm meeting a friend there. (Although now that I've discovered to make the drink I mentioned in the first message of this posting, I won't have to do that!)
