Gold Standard Protein System

I just saw an infomercial on TV about Dr. Wheeler's GOLD STANDARD PROTEIN SYSTEM. It said that the Dr. was on the Atkin's plan and liked it but wasn't losing weight very fast, so he developed a protein shake with a formula that made the weight come off faster (not so fast to be unhealthly though) and combined the shakes with a low carb meal plan.

I was wondering if anyone on LCF has ever tried this plan and what do you think about it?

Having not seen the infomercial, I should probably keep my mouth shut, but I would be willing to bet this plan works much the same way that slimfast does. Consume less calories and lose more weight. You won't need a shake to do that. Just start counting calories instead. Be reasonable about it though. Best of luck to you.

I don't believe there's any pill, shake, powder or tea that will make you lose weight faster that won't also potentially jeopardize your health.

Chances are it makes you lose weight faster because his plan has you consuming fewer calories.

I have no experience with it, either, but it sets up my "Consumer Warning" flags. These are some tips for evaluating diet claims:

*It promises fast results.
*It relies on little known principles that only this company/person can offer.
*It has no real proof it works beyond the happy endorsers who claim great success.
*You have to buy the special product only from them.

Dr. Atkins and his books fit none of these criteria, by the way. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. One thing you can do is go to an online review website, like this one:

This one reviews Propolene, which also matches all the warning flags I mentioned above.

I found a site that lists the Nutrition Facts. http://www.opamerica.com/product_in...products_id/114

Just turn down your volume, there's an imbedded cheesy Flash video.

Calories per serving: 180. Definitely low carb slim fast.

It's probably a perfectly good snack or meal replacement for those times you can't stand another egg in the morning or you're in a hurry, but you save a few bucks by buying regular protein powder and multivitamins.

Uh, I think my question was --has anyone on here tried this plan?

I don't buy anything off infomercials. That would be a no from me.

Ditto for me and at only 2 grams of fiber per serving, I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who has tendencies towards constipation.

I've tried it & REALLY like it!

First I want to say, I've tried other shakes and personally, YUCK! And I thought this was just another one of thoses... so I wouldn't try any shakes, but, I was introduced to this by my previous employer and she's an ovarian cancer survivor who would make this when she was looking for something to "drink" rather than "eat" while doing paperwork. (I mention this because she's very picky about what goes into her mouth, for most processed foods out there are cancer triggers, she said. And she believes in walking daily & tons of water. She's very thin.) Anyways, I watched several times while she made this up and finally I asked.. "is that stuff any good?" She let me try a sample from her blender mix and I tell you, I could have these serveral times a week and not miss a "eat" type meal.
How you want to make it up, is up to you. Plain Vanilla straight from the can is fine, but adding alittle frozen berries & a 1/2 banana & ice works great for me... this is how she showed me... also adding in alittle juice/water to thin it as necessary. Vanilla is the only one I've tried, but her hubby likes the chocolate alot. I really miss the shakes and am going to get a couple cans to help kick start my diet. Hope this helps!

Gold Standard Protein Mix

I have been using this mix for about 5 years ... off and on.

It is delicious, but quite expensive. It must be purchased online.

I used it before every meal... usually only the mix for breakfast.
It made me less hungry and I tended to eat less at each low carb meal.

I am currently looking for a cheaper replacement, but I really like this mix. I love the chocolate, but do not like the vanilla.
