hey all LCers-- how do YOU handle free days?

Hi folks!

I just ordered the BFL book and I'm itching to start! In the meantime, I'm mentally preparing myself for the change in routine, and trying to reconcile LC eating w/ BFL exercise. I keep reading that I will likely need to increase my carbs, which is fine, but it raises a few preliminary questions. I hope you all can provide some feedback:

1) By how much did you all increase your carbs? Did you increase all at once, or ease into the increase?
2) How do you handle your free days? Do you indulge in a few LC treats? Or do you just go all out and eat whatever you're craving?

Thanks so much. I'm learning a lot just reading everyone's posts.

I don't do free days. They would do too much damage for me. When I started BFL, I was having 20-25 carbs a day. I started to feel low on energy, so I upped them to 30 and added in some steel cut oatmeal. Did the trick. Some days I have 40 carbs, but most days I'm around 30. I try to stay away from treats, I have them maybe once a month. I am having more this week, cause it's my week off though :D Good luck starting!

nesquita, I'd raise them just a little every day until I was at a level I was comfortable with - usually above 30g but below 60g. It's a 'comfort zone' that you'll have to experiment with.

As for the free day - when doing BFL LC it doesn't fulfill the same need as it does when BFL is done by the book. LC eating tends to be higher calorie, free day is meant to keep the body from thinking 'diet' and 'restiction'. When I did BFL with LC eating I used free day as a day free from fitday and counting. No 6 meals, no 'protein with every meal' and no worrying about calories. I actually ate less on my free days!

There's a sticky atop this forum with some tips and hints on how to incorporate a LC WOE with BFL style workouts - a good place to start :)

Welcome to the forum!
