Does Ham make you retain water?

I normally drink 96 to 128 oz of water a day. Last night we had country ham for dinner and I woke up feeling buffy and 5 pounds heavier. Have you had this experience with any other foods.

Yes, that happens to me if I eat something really salty. And ham, IIRC, is quite salty.

Always happens to me...its definitely the sodium. Remember to always drink extra water after eating something like ham, cold cuts or salted nuts. :)

lots of salt is used in curing most hams so, yes, it could be the ham. Also, are you sure it wasn't cured with sugar or honey? If it was, those carbs and the salt could explain 5 lbs of water retention.
