I use Miracle whip -- should I be using real mayo? MW has 2 carbs and 4g fat, I dont have any mayo do you know if one is preferrable over the other?

flutterbye Fri, Jul-25-03 10:29

I just looked at my jar of Hellmans mayo which says 0 carbs and 1.5 grams fat per tablespoon.
I love real mayo. Have never tryed MW before. Real mayo is the way to go if you like it. flutterbye

I don't have either kind in front of me---but I'm pretty sure (99%) that Miracle Whip is loaded with sugar. I believe the mayo you eat should be the "Real" stuff, not salad dressing. In salad dressing, they have replaced the fat with sugar, which will give you more carbs.

And if I'm wrong, then just ignore this post. :)

"T" :)

"T" is exactly right, you should be using real mayo. Miracle Whip is not allowed on induction, nor is it LC. If ever you're unsure of a food, check your book or the Atkins website to see what's allowed on induction.

Happy LCing!

If you look at the labels for Miracle Whip, most of them are actually Low Carb. I just went to the Kraft website and most of the varieties are 2 carbs.
However, I believe the reason we avoid Miracle Whip is because it contains trans fat. I don't have a bottle here to look at, so I am guessing on this. Look at the label for hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils. These are the dangerous trans fats and you definitely want to avoid them.

On the plus side, Kraft has made promises to eliminate trans fats from it's products and now a law has been passed requiring food makers to label trans fats.

That is my guess as to why Miracle Whip is a no-no. Read the ingredients to be sure though.

Ok, Sample induction menu that I eat.

Breakfast - Sautee 1/4 of and onion in butter and pour in 3 beaten eggs then dump 1/4 cup of shreded cheedar cheese and cook together.
Top with Louisanna Hot Sauce. Can add bacon or sausage or my favorite thin breakfast steaks. Now this is when I'm real hungry when I wake up and also when time permits. If on the go I just scramble some eggs real fast and use that precooked micro. bacon from Oscar Myers.

Lunch - This is where I have trouble. If I'm cutting hair that day I run over to McDs and get one of their grilled chic. salads. If I'm home I eat tuna or I roll sliced cheddar cheese up in 3 slices of roast beef and micro on low for 30 sec. and fix a quick salad.

Dinner - My favorite. Grilled any kind of meat or seafood , Asparagus with cheese , green beans , sauted mushrooms and onions, squash casserole without the cracker crumbs, smoked sausage and saurkraut,
kababs on the grill. The possibilities are endless.

Hope this helps.
