48 hours on Friday?

Forgive me if this is already a topic somewhere on this site. I tried to search using 48 hours, and it wouldn't let me because of the number, but anyway...

I keep seeing this promo for the Friday episode of 48 hours. Supposedly there are "surprising" results to a study which investigates the Atkins diet. Anyone know any more about this? Like is this a study that is already out and published somewhere? or do you have to watch the show to find out? They said Atkins is the number 1 diet plan used in the states. I'm kind of surprised.

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mari

For those of us that don't get 48 Hours, please sum up what was said. In fact, I have no TV at all over here so am always interested in hearing about these stories.

New Study Tips Scales On Atkins’ Diet

It Works But Is It Safe?
Study Shows Some Health Benefits

The show was good and informative, but just only got to the basics. I think we all know those. But hopefully the tests have shown that there is definitely merit to the Dr. Atkins Diet. Maybe people will stop giving us the gears now!! I'm happy with what I'm doing and my health is good, so I will carry on!!!
Now if I could just get out of my stall!!!!
Interesting that they talked about ephedra. Are products with ephedra still available in the US??? Just in the last couple of weeks, they have been banned in Canada. I saw a lady on TV the other night who said she didn't care, she was still going to take it. Pretty scary when your health is so at risk!!
Enough rambling.

In spite of 48 Hour's positive reporting, and highlighting a study showing the benefits and improvement in cholestrol numbers for dieter, our local Vancouver idiots at NowTV, showered all commercial segments during the 48 Hours show with their promotion of their own take on dieting on their show "OnLine" immidiately following 48 Hours. Each commercial segent keeps asking you, "Are these FAD diets like Atkins good for you? All those pills and surgery and sucking fat?" How dishonest can you get?

We'll there own show was nothing but excerpts of 48 Hours with the journalis's own comments, interrupted by a guest!

I saw this. It was pretty good. Finally put some positive publicity on Dr. Atkins for a change!

tamarian Sat, Jan-19-02 02:12

Can't help it :) The next segment on NowTV "OnLine" is talking about ephedra. A guest trainer said it speeds your heart rate, which is true, but then a guest caller told them a horrible story of how she took ephedra for 3 months !!!!, stopped, went on vacation, and "the chemicals messed up my mind, and I had clinical psychosis, they had to commit me to a mental institution!!!"

While ephedra has nothing to do with low-carbing, that was a bold comment on how much research they do for their show. Even the FDA never claimed mental illnesses due to ephedra!

Any way, I called in and was eventually able to connect. Introduced myself and informed them I have some positive comments on the Atkins diet. I was on hold for 30 minutes, but the program ended while I'm still on hold. :(
