Carbs after exercise.....

I mountain biked saturday for about 2 hours - very intense workout. Afterwords I found myself eating a "pretzel turkey melt" which was not low carb by any means..... I should have been better prepared with my food but....I was'nt.
Anyhow, I ate probably 50g carbs in a sitting.....I've been eating 20-40g carbs in a typical day so this worried me. I expected to feel a bit off later - maybe feel the cravings that creep back - maybe feel tired (as carbs always make me feel).....but I did'nt. I got right back to LC and made it through a birthday party later that night without any other carb trap foods.

My queston is regarding exercise - after you do intense exersice (like mountain biking for 2 hours) - is your body better able to deal with carbs as the glycogen in your body has been used (pushing pedals!)

WOndering if anyone has any insight. Thanks - Steve

Ive been told a moderate amount of carbs around intense exercise is ok. But Id suggest healthier carbs, such as fruits etc. :)

I agree - I ordered the turkey melt with intent of tossing the pretzel but......well......

you know the rest of the story! Thanks - Steve

I guess you have no choice but to dust off and go on with it. I've rarely been one who can order something with bread and toss it easily. Evidently, your resistance is low after exercise, so you'll learn to prepare for next time. You can do it!

I'm sure someone in the exercise forums can give you the info you're looking for about the timing of carbs and exercise. Personally, I find I have MORE endurance if I eat a protein/fat snack before working out.

Oh I get the turkey melt, once every 2 weeks on Saturdays, after a 2hr karate class, but I've gotten used to removing the bread. I keep thinking that I worked too hard those 2hrs to sabotage myself with bread
