If you have been heavy since you can remember...

How do you come up with a goal weight? I put mine on the upper side of healthy for my height but I really don't know what is appropriate for me. I realize I will know when I get there but having a goal to meet certainly helps. I'm just not sure that my goal is what it should be.

I would say just tkae your healthy weight in the high range, and then when you get there, decide if you want to loose a few more or not.

That's what I did but wasn't sure if it was really obtainable because I seriously can not remember the last time I was under 175 and that was 8 years ago...

I decided on 135 lbs just because it was 10 lbs heavier than what I weighed when I was 18, and it is in the middle of the healthy weight chart.

I was pregnant at 18 but I weigh only 2 lbs less now than when I was full term with that pregnancy.

nka-
I was a young mother too. I was pregnant at 19. Thank goodness I weigh less than I did when I got pregnant. I'm 2 lbs. away from what I weighed when I got married.(28 years ago)

I chose 150 because it was good round number, near the top of the healthy range, and where I was in high school.

I mean, most adults never get back to their high school weight. 150 may be near the top of the healthy range, but the high school weight makes it feel ambitious enough. I'll see how I feel when I get there.

There's a chart in the atkins book that says what weight you should be for your height.

nka Sun, Jul-11-04 14:39

I actually was on my 3rd pregnancy by 19 and had another after...4 daughters:) all c-sections...my stomach looks like a war zone

nka Sun, Jul-11-04 14:41

I did check several different charts but I know it varies by person. My cousin is the same height as I am and she wears the same size as I do at 180. I'm at a 14-16 now ... I just want to make sure I am not putting myself at a goal that is never going to happen.

weight goals

the web site I use to get ideas about weight goals lists possible ranges for someone your height and age

med rec 121 - 160

met life small frame 125 - 139
med frame 136 - 150
large frame 146 - 166

ideal body weight (robinson) 136

here is the link http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm

so it seems like you have set a reasonable and attainable initial goal, but as others have said, see how you feel when you get there... go a little lower and see if it is comfortable, and you like how you look and feel. basically after meeting your initial goal fine tune it to how you are as an individual

I chose 175 because that my weight before my first pregancy -- 19 years ago. I don't know if that is were I'll stop but I figured it was the weight I maintained for probably 10 years so it's a good goal to work for. Funny but I always felt gigantic at 175 - at 230 I dreamed of 175.

Thank you! I think I have set a pretty good goal. I hope I can make it at least close to there:)

I remember feeling huge at 175, too. I would kill to be at that weight again now

You can also adjust up, if you get to a weight and decide you're fine where you are. If you're muscular, you might wind up weighing more than the charts say.
