OK. I know this is an odd question but...

has anyone noticed that their personal odor has changed since starting LC? You now how a person has their own kind of trademark scent about them? I'm a very olfactory type person & I've gotta tell you, my new scent is not making me too warm & fuzzy. I'm guessing it's the increase in meat - also I never used to eat eggs. Maybe once a year I'd eat Aunt Laura's deviled eggs, but that's it. Haven't changed detergent or deoderant either. Is it Metabolism? What? I can't believe that pasta & sweets are what make a person's scent personal... or is it? :o

Yep, mine has changed too.... more of a musky odor than it was before. Ketosis is a strange thing, isn't it? :)

Two possibilities...

What you eat will change your body chemistry a bit.

But I am more inclined to think that what you are experiencing is the side effects of ketones. They are the by-product of your fat breakdown and are excreted by urine, sweat, breath... etc.

From what I understand there is not much you can do about them. Brush your teeth more, a good deoderant... which you are probably already doing. :)

The good news is that it seemed, to me, that they were noticable during my more rapid loss in induction but since then have leveled out. That or I've gotten used to the scent. ;)

Others might have other experiences.

Yep, sounds as though you are in ketosis.
The ketone bodies are excreted via our urine, lungs and skin (sweat).

The best way to dilute the whole shebang, and therefore the odour, is to drink plenty of water.

The other suggestion is to perhaps increase your level of healthy carbs. I'm not sure what you are eating, but as you are doing very well indeed, you may well find you can eat more carbs, still lose and, er, smell a touch better! :D

Well done on your weight loss so far, Ginger!

I HAD the same problem. Someone on another BB told me to try Chlorophyll Capsules. I was showering 3 times a day! Two caples in the morning and 2 in the evening have worked very well for me.
The only down side is when I smelled bad, I knew I was in ketosis!

I am SO happy to see this addressed. I thought maybe I was the only person noticing this. I hadn't really noticed it in my breath or anything, but my underarms were just stinking to high heaven. And not like my usual sweat smell - really horrible. My DH suggested that it was the eggs (I never ate them much before) and I have to admit that now that I've stopped eating them every morning, I am not noticing the smell. Of course, this could also have to do with the fact that I've also been drinking quite a bit of wine over the last couple of weeks, and maybe I'm not in ketosis anymore. If I notice this smell coming back, I will definitely try the chlorophyll capsules. Thanks very much for the tip.

Hmm

Well I'll be darned. It's weird too because I've been upping my carb intake a bit lately too with an orange here and an apple there. This past Sunday I had a bowl of homemade macaroni & cheese too.

Great & thanks for the tips!

The boyfriend keeps complaining that I smell like beer. Which is really strange because I have not touched the stuff in over a year.

i WISH i smelled like beer!

Do you have guys following you around town? Smelling like beer could be quite an asset? ;)

I'd bet that in addition to the usual ketone scents, the fact that there's less glucose in your blood is probably altering your bacterial flora, which is responsible for underarm and other certain odours. Whether this is a good or bad thing probably varies from person to person.

Not me

The only time I really noticed any smell was when I excercise. Man I have to jump right in to the shower. I drink a gallon of water a day most of the time, so that is why I don't have that problem, I guess from what I am reading. The breath thing ugh! Most of the time when I drink seltzer it gets rid of it, Thank god!
