Chocolate

Oh No!! Who mentioned the "C" word?

Okay, I'm sure this will be a subject close to many people's hearts. What I would be interested to know is:-

Do you still eat chocolate and if so what sort (milk, plain, white, diabetic etc)?

How often do you eat it?

Have your chocolate tastes changed since low carbing?

What was your favourite chocolate treat, prior to starting LC?

I suppose I'd better answer my own questions

I do still have chocolate, occasionally. I have a box of Thorntons Continental in the 'fridge that have been there since May (they were a present). I've had 3 of them up to now. It would probably depend on my mood as to what sort of chocolate I would choose. I have some 85% cocoa chocolate in the 'fridge too which I use mainly for cooking. I'm not a great lover of white chocolate.

My chocolate tastes probably have changed a bit since low carbing. I find chocolates much more sweet and sickly now. I did manage to force down a Strawberry Mousse chocolate in Thorntons with my coffee on Tuesday though! It is all Lynda's fault. She could have told the girl we didn't want them

Before low carbing, I really enjoyed Cadbury's chocolate. Everything from dairy milk, to flakes, twirls, fuse bars, chocolate buttons (it's years since I had them!). I wont go on, I'll be drooling!

i still eat chocolate.1 square of 85% cocoa solid kind every day.i,m not touching that diabetic choccy ever again.gives me too much wind and cramps.the only chocolate bars i used to eat was milky ways.i prefer the dark choccy now as its not so sweet.

Yes we heard all about that strawberry chocolate, you naughty naughty girls :nono: LOL

Well i have been doing a lot of research into that brown substance, and i think the 85% choc is probably the best as it's natural but only if you can be good and only have a little now and then and within your carb allowance.

I have tried Thortons vanilla fudge bar (diabetic) and that was divine. Wouldn't be able to keep a stock of them in the fridge for emergencies though the temptation would be too much and i would spend the week on the loo.

Before LC well any choc would do, especially Thortons continental there is no way i would of only eaten 3 of them since May!!! You deserve a medal for that!

When ive reached my goal weight i will get the 85% as a very occasional treat. Until then i will continue going with out and only reaching for the diabetic stuff when it's either that or going down that dark road of sin to Cadbury's.

As for my taste changing i'm not sure as i haven't had any chocolate since starting LC, but then i was extremely surprised at how good that diabetic bar was, so perhaps they have.

I haven't had any chocolate at all... thankfully, I wasn't that keen on it before the diet, so have nothing to miss.

That said...

I made a mini muffin the other day, and filled it with whipped cream because of a notable lack of anything else in the fridge to use. The muffin itself tasted a bit like choux pastry...

 Chocolate profiteroles here I come!!!

oh I am really droolin now. I have only eaten one piece of chocolate on this woe (which you all know about) I cant eat anymore I would never stop!!!

Paulie-M Fri, Aug-29-03 10:04

Lynda, do you think I should let Derek know about the diabetic fudge bars in Thorntons? Although knowing him, he'd be sneaking in there every day on his lunch hour and not telling me!! Not that we would do anything like that.

We can feel quite self-righteous cos we 'fessed up in public .

lburnikell Fri, Aug-29-03 10:08

yes but we only had a tenny weeny piece, men are sneaky he would have the blimin lot!!

Ebbie.B Fri, Aug-29-03 13:07

LOL believe me if he had too much he would regret it!!

I'm very greatful there isn't a Thortons that local to me or these bars could be a serious problem. If you don't think he would be able to have them as an occasional treat, then how about getting him one but removing the wrapper so he doesn't know where it is from.

lburnikell Fri, Aug-29-03 13:41

good idea any way I am gonna stop looking in this thread its torture

pepsi max Fri, Aug-29-03 13:59

dark chocolate is good for you, you know.its a fact.

I have chocolate about once a week. It's my downfall but I have accepted that. I melt a bit of butter, cream and an unsweetened square of Bakers chocolate in the microwave and within a couple of minutes I have a bit of fudgy goo which I add splenda granular to sweeten. I often will add in pecans or other nuts to jazz it up. It is my weekly reward. Yum Yum.

I'm not telling Derek about the diabetic fudge bars in Thorntons. He's been eating Walkers shortbread and jelly babies at work this week and kept it quiet!!

Carbcutter Sun, Aug-31-03 07:49

The strange thing is i don't get cravings for sweets /chocs/crisps like i did before is this normal and if i did take a choccy bar again would i be a failure and would it send me back on the rocky road to ruin Enquiring minds want to know!!!
