Cluster Headaches Help

Hello LC Friends!

I need some sort of help here but I am not too sure what I can do. I have a long history of migranes that 9 times out of ten end up with an injection of Tardol & Phenergan because they get so bad and long term. I do take RX for them when they hit, but they hardly help. When I say bad Headaches I mean to the point I can pass out or vomit. I was a stage 4 of 5 Bells Palsey when I was pg in 2002 that also resulted in the 7th cranial nerve damage that also contributes to the pain. So to make a long story short, I am keeping headaches daily. I have increased the water, taking tylenol as a prevention and its getting worse. Were on week 3 of the LC diet and these are like clockwork and disturbing my sleep, all in all making me feel rather crapy.

Does anyone here have any advice or have the same symptoms going on with this?

Hi Emagine:
I understand what you're going through. I have been a migrainer since childhood. Until recently, I averaged about 3 migraines a week. Under the care of a specialist, I tried numerous preventative treatments, none of which worked, of course. I have been pretty lucky in that oral Imitrex and later Zomig are about 85% effective for me if taken early enough.

One thing that I learned is to stay away from ibuprofen or acetaminophen (Advil, Tylenol, etc.) as some studies have shown that those painkillers can actually trigger migraine. Rather than trying to mask the pain with one of those painkillers, which for me often would prolong the headache for weeks, I have found that it's usually better to just let the thing run it's course when possible. If I didn't get the Zomig early enough and I absolutely have to function during a migraine, I will take Excederin Migraine, which does have acetaminophen, plus aspirin and caffeine, but I usually pay the price when the headache comes back even stronger a few hours later.

When I started a LC diet, my migraines decreased dramatically, but I thnk it was probably just coincidence. After about four months I started having headaches again, though less frequent than in the past.

Good luck.
