How to figure Net Carbs??

Ok, I understand that fiber can be subtracted from the carb totals, such as if I have 12 carb grams, but there are 4 fiber grams then my net carbs is only 8. Right?
BUT, I bought an Advantage snack bar and it says "Net carbs 2grams" But, I see the label says total carbs 22g, total fiber 11g. that would be Net 11g carbs to me, where do they get 2g?
How can I figure net carbs in other foods if it's not spelled out on the packaging such as on this bar?
Thanks.

Hullo Larry,

The missing 9g are sugar alcohols. According to Dr Atkins, these have little or no effect on one's blood sugar and therefore do not need to be counted as carbs.

Unfortunately, they do have an effect on some people, so just be aware that regular use may slow you down.

You'll find more information on sugar alcohols (and a lot of other things) in "Low Carb Tips" on the orange bar at the top of your screen.
