lc biscuits

OK, this morning I made sausage gravy using equal parts cream & water and using the ThickNThin Not Starch. The gravy was great. I made "biscuits" using Atkins bake mix & just baked in a muffin pan. Got to find something else for biscuits! Any ideas?

Honestly I try anything and low carb it.

Just use 3/4 cup of bake mix to 1 cup of flour in a recipe. Have done brownies and muffins.

Also, I usually use less splenda then called for and if sweet add a bit of almond or vanilla extract to cut the taste.

You mean you take a regular recipe and substitute 3/4 c bake mix to 1 cup flour? What if the recipe calls for shortening? I thought we were not supposed to use anything but oils. Do they still taste like biscuits?

I was just thinking I'd like to try making some biscuits. What's in the Atkins bake mix, we can't buy it over here, but maybe I can get whatever the raw ingredients are from the health food shop.
Thanks, Jay

The ingredients are Supro Brand isolated soy protein, soy flour, glucono delta lactone, potassium bicarbonat, sodium phospate, oat fiber, polyfextrose (Litesse), potassium chloride - don't know how much the equations are. Good luck!

OK, so basically soy flour, oat bran and some raising agent. Good, I can get all that tomorrow - I'll have a go. Thanks Barbara.

Jaykay
I order my Atkins over the internet. There are several sites. Actually if you go to yahoo and type in low carb in the search space it will give you a list. Follow the links to different sites and complare prices. The shipping charges may be to high. I try to find free shipping when possible. Vitacost.com had free shipping last month. I'm going to call to see if it still good, I don't think so.
Good luck & happy low carbing.

I order it from the Atkins website. I think it is $17.99 but you only use 1 tsp per cup of liquid. You can use it to make gravy from drippings off your pot roast. It does not lump, dissolves quickly. The package says you can make your own ketcup and even make crackers using 3-4 times its volume of ground nuts, seeds, bran, etc. Then season and bake until set. There are 85 1 tsp servings to the package. It's worth it to me because we like gravies and can make cream soups to cook pot roasts with (I used to use the canned cream of chicken or mushroom soups). Hope this helps.

J.J. I am sure you can use your choice of flour but I think you should try the soy first because I believe you will save a few grams. There are only between 1 and 2 carbs per slice and it is excellent I just had a slice with e.d. smith sugar free strawberry jam .It is as good as regular!

Thanks, Pippa, for your recipe. Think I'll try it. The Atkins brand is so expensive for me.

I never knew there were gravy-type dry ingredients we could use in place of cornstarch. I haven't used cornstarch at all, and I am sure craving making white sauce, etc. I'll have to try the Atkins with those ideas.
