Need clarification on hidden carbs
 

I love this forum and have learned so much in just one short day!

I am really still not clear on how to get an accurate carb count on some products.

Example:

Jimmy Dean Hickory Sausage

Label = Calories 240, Fat 21, Protein 9, Carbs 0

My calculations = 3.75 Carbs

Hidden carbs calculator= 3.19 Carbs

On the other hand...

Rudy Farm Country Sausage

Label = Calories 210, Fat 21, Protein 9, Carbs 1

My calculations = (3.75) Carbs

Hidden carbs calculator = (5.60) Carbs

How do you handle these situations?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I am so confused about Splenda. The package says 0 Calories and less than 1 Carb. Most of the products I have purchased containing Splenda show 0 Carbs on the label?

That's a negative (5.60) even though the package shows 1 Carb.

Store bought items with Splenda in them, especially liquids contain liquid Splenda which has no carbs.

The packets of Splenda contain maltodextrin and about 1 carb apiece. I believe pourable Splenda contains about 12 carbs a cup.



The sausage looks fine.

sorry to revive this old topic, but if there are really 3+ carbs in it, aren't they required to say so on the label?? I know they can round down if < 0.9 but from 3 to 0???? Or is it really 0 and the carb counter is off for this type of product??

Some products subtract the fiber from the total carb count already, especially in UK apperently. So instead of being able to take the total amount of carbs - fiber for net carbs, you have to go by the total carbs. Splenda in liquid form and on it's own has no carbs. The powder would be too fine and small for practical use, so they add other things to the packets and powder to make it a certain volume (fillers). Atm liquid splenda isn't available to the general public. There is a petition to sign asking the company to sell liquid form to the public.
