I was skimming on the internet last night and found this book that might be of some interest. The book is written by Dr. Paul Rivas and the title of it is "Turning Off The Hunger Switch." Has to do with the struggle of losing weight inspite of the hard work and good intention. Feels that there are four catagories that people fit into and with the correct supplements or medication (if needed) the particular "switch" is turned off which results in the cravings subsiding allowing for your weight program of choice to be more effective.

From personal experience I know that while going through the difficult time and his ADHD his psychiatrist had me take Prozac for a short time. It totally took my cravings away even though it was for a short time. Mind you I lost weight however not knowing that I have an addiction to carbs., I kept eating a total Vegan diet which as we all know it is all carbs. But for the first time and since I had no cravings at all-not even to the cinnamon rolls that my husband was eating...... :) :)

I know I had a switch go off
 
its not to say that little tiny "niggles' don't come up..
But its incredible the things that don't bother me anymore.
There was my sisters wedding..with the chocolate mint BYU dairy brownies.. Something I have loved for a long time..
I thought They would bother me.. I thought I would obsess about them.. the way I did when I high carbed/ lowfatted/low carlorie/worked my butt off'd it..
Nada..Nothing.
I didn't even think about them at home.. except to think how funny this feels
I ignore the buffet's at work! Yes..they are just behind me.. and nothing. Nada
And there was the Krispy Kreme doughnuts at Harry Potter the other night..
Again..nothing..not so much as one craving for them
although I could keep smelling that vanilla glaze for some reason through the next day!!! LOL
I figure some must have gotten in my hair with them throwing them around the theatre..
But its really cool how it just doesn't bother you anymore!

I am no where near that point right now. This is why I hooked up with the internet and found that book. I have always felt that this "disorder/disease" that I have has two components. 1) psychological-how I have used food to deal with events in my life, the habit it has become to turn to it when I am under whatever emotion at the time. I have gone to therapist and told them how much I know about this and they just laugh because I know more about it than they do. 2) physiological-the actual brain chemistry imbalance that I truly believe causes the cravings. There have been two times when I have had no cravings and both times I was taking the Prozac during some very stressful times. No cravings to the point of going to the in-laws for Christmas Day lunch and not even thinking about the canoles. Now that was prove enough for me.

I am very familiar with the supplements that help raise the serotonin levels but haven't found a book that deals with just the weight issue. I ordered the book today so as I read it I will post.

I never thought I would actually really reach this point. I didn't believe it existed..but it does..
