Anyone get a favorable review from your doctor lately?

I should be a test case.

At the end of last year when I went for a regular checkup with my doctor, I had been on a 10 year kick of eating tons of carbs and sugar. Consequently, I had been overweight, and also suffered from extremely high tri-glycerides.

Not any more.

My doctor was astounded. He told me that after only 2 and a half months on atkins, my blood pressure had dropped dramatically, going down 20 points on both the top number and the bottom number.

This coming tuesday I go back to get some bloodwork done. The doc is very intrigued to see how that comes out.

For what it's worth, he has been in the pro-atkins camp for quite a while now.

That great to hear. I hven't told my doctor I'm doing Atkins but am curious to see if my blood pressure has gone down, was 140/90 before Atkins. I don't think so many UK doctors are into Atkins yet so not sure what her response would be.

I just posted my lipid results in my journal. I go in on Monday for my first meeting with my Doc since starting Atkins. I will definitely fess up to my new WOL and-considering my results-will find it interesting if he tries to lecture me.

My very young doc (33) is very suportive and she said dead on that Atkins was an effective program and to stick with it for regulating my blood sugar. Her only caveat was to drink lots of water.
This doctor, by the way, is an osteopath - a trained medical docotr with additional osteopathic coursework and nutrition courses!

My doctor is not anti-Atkins although I believe his response to my inquiry was "waste of time". How can changing my diet so I'm no longer eating exclusively ice cream, cake, donuts, chocolate bars, bread, puddings etc to eating salads, veggies and meats be a waste of time? Whatever! :p

Anyway, I had my new blood work drawn on Thursday and will get the results either Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm quite anxious as I've noticed several people have actually had cholesterol results go up and not down during the first few months.

I'll post my results, good bad or indifferent, when I get them.

well, I lost over 30 lb snice she saw me last, my blood pressure (which wasn't bad to beging with) is much better, and my cholsterol (which was not bad to begin with) is also better.
I know she is a WW fan, but how can she say anything negative about Atkins??
"Do whatever you are doing, it seems to work" she said...
So there... :)

My blood pressure was running around 137/82 and after just 6 weeks on Atkins it was down to around 115/73 which is excellent especially now since they are saying that 120/80 is a little too high...over the past couple of weeks it has always remained at this new level and sometimes even lower with the lowest being 104/65...this is very impressive to me as both of my parents have high blood pressure problems and I am now in my 40's where they were when they had to start taking medication for it.

While my dramatic improvement in my weight, blood pressure, blood sugars and cardiac profile hasn't exactly converted my doc to the Atkins camp (he's also a DO by the way), he's certainly impressed with the total 180 I've made in my health and basically told me to keep doing what I'm doing the last time I saw him for my semi-annual check.
When I first saw him for all these problems 2 years ago, I told him right up front that I was going to go low carb. His response was, "If you think it will help, go for it!".

Bah, doctors, who needs them. Always thinking they know best and pushing drugs down you.

Just kidding. Any weight plan or suppliment plan is probably easier and safer with the aid and supervision of a doctor. I'm one of the many who are uninsured though. There is no way I can go to the doctor unless death or dismemberment is involved. The kids fortunetly have insurance and get thier regular checkups, shots and so on. I did get as profile at the health fair a few years ago and had healthy numbers for everything and great looking cholesterol. If they have a health fair here where you can get blood work done I may go in for that. They are great ways to get basic blood tests done for very cheap.

My doctor said it was wonderful! She said that she is even trying it for awhile just to get the idea of how the diet makes you feel (she doesn't need to lose any weight). My test results were GREAT! My glucose level is 87 & my blood pressure at last visit was 107/71. I have never had a problem with it, except when I was pregnant.

Keep up the good work!!!
