peanuts

Hi there,

I hope this isn't a repeated question but i haven't been able to find the answer I am looking for.

I heard on a show last week that nuts are a good low carb snack. So my husband bought shelled unsalted peanuts for me to snack on during my snacky times.

Are these really okay to eat??

thankyou

Peanut are not really nuts - they are legumes like peas and beans. They are a bit high in carbs. Walnuts, almonds or brazils are better - if you are past induction. The problem with nuts is that they are very moreish - and they do have carbs in!

I like pecans. Low in carbs, pretty good in fiber. Peanuts are OK-but they do have carbs in them, so make sure you count those. I like to get the Delux mIxed nuts-usually 20-30 is a serving size and that has around 2-3 carbs.

Cashews are out too

Not really nuts. If you really pay attention, you can taste the sugar in them--way more than real nuts.

For any nuts, watch your servings! I don't overeat (never have, except for sugar binges in my pre-LC days), but it's really easy to overindulge in nuts.

Look on Fitday for the actual counts of any nut you want to eat. Macadamia and pecan are good choices.

Macadamias are about the best for carb to fat ratio, but they are extreamly expencive in alot of areas.

Peanuts are ok, if raw. You might get them in the shell to help control portion size as it takes time to crack them open. Make sure to weigh your portions as it is very hard to stop at 1oz.

Try a variety of other nuts as well. Almonds can eb a great addition to salads and stirfrys.

Some of my favorite meals include a salad with apples and walnuts or blueberries, and a stir fry I make which uses shrimp, broccoli, coconut and almonds. When ever I eat the stir fry I get a burst of energy and a warm feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Nuts also tend to stall some people. While I don't really stall with lowcarb bars, nuts totally stall me. So be careful
