snacks 101

:q: snacks what are they and haow many can i have

The "how many" depends very much on the "what are they".

Something like pepperoni slices you are pretty much unrestricted. Anything with cheese you need to watch the carb count and the daily limit while on Induction. Similar with things like celery.

These are the snack I found that worked well.

Pepperoni slices.
Deviled eggs
Celery with cream cheese.

Now, once or at most twice a day, I am having a S/F jello topped with whipped cream. I don't recommend that during Induction and, once out of Induction, be sure to establish that it doesn't stall you are trigger cravings.

more snack ideas

Here are a few of my favorite snacks:

Macadamia nuts
Pork rinds (no carbs, but very salty)
Rolled up slices of turkey or roast beef with cream cheese on them.
Sunflower seeds
Atkins Cranberry orange muffins with cream cheese or butter
Pumpkin seeds

I don't often get the urge to snack as this WOE has a way of really controlling your appetite. Many people have a hard time getting enough calories because of this...they just don't feel like eating! If you do snack, always count the carbs in your daily allowance; there are very few foods that are carb free. Right now, I'm having a snack of two turkey sausage patties. Turkey sausage not because of the fat content, but because it's the only sausage that I've been able to find that doesn't have nitrates in it.

nitrate free

I've been using turkey bacon because I don't know where on the list of ingredients show the nitrate free at on any thing else

Hi Elaine....

I'm going to assume that you have read Atkins book DANDR and that you are on induction. If you go over the allowable foods list, anything on that list could qualify as a snack, depending on when and how much you are eating. Since I'm eating 6 times a day, it's a moot point as to when and if I 'snack'. We are all individuals with different needs so feel free to 'snack' in a way that suits you and still follows the recommendations of Dr. A.
