one lc meal a day?

My mom and I have been trying to get my father to eat better (he is borderline or maybe is obese atm) but he refuses to give up his morning pastrys. My mom is on Atkins and having great success. She feeds him an atkins friendly dinner (basically a piece of meat, serving a lc veggies and a salad) I know in his book that he says high fat/high carbs causes obesity. I would hate for my father to gain more and risk more health problems. My question is do you think it would be better to stick with more traditional low fat dinner or would he still benefit from one lc meal a day?

For me, i have to stick to one --either lowfat or lowcarb-- in order to see results.

hmmmm....well i'd have to say that if he is eating high carb AND high fat all in the same day then thats definately super bad. he'd probably have to get a lower fat version of the same dinner like no butter/oil on the veggies, low fat dressing for salad, and maybe chicken instead of meat sometimes. but he can also have some bread or rice or corn. who knows, maybe when he sees all the rich dinners the others are eating he will convert????

If he was obese before eating anything low carb then it probably is the high carb diet that is causing his obesity. I will bet that it is a high crab evening meal that causes the morning pastry cravings.Atleast by consuming a carb balanced diet in the evening, he will not have a spike in insulin which results in a drop in glucose. He may find out that he doesn't crave the morning pastries anymore. I think that going with a low carb meal in the evening will give him a nice edge at reducing his overall carbs altogether.
