Flax oil doesnt tast that bad

Flax oil is expensive but it doesnt taste that bad.

I plan to start back this week clean, taking a week off made a big difference.

Trainerdan Thu, Oct-24-02 12:08

cool

I think flax has a funny little taste, but I may try mixing it with some flavored CLA liquid (orange flavored) and seeing how that goes.

Keep us posted on your plan Realdeal. :)

i didnt have any problem with the taste until is started to go rancid, then it was pretty nasty.

I mixed mine with 2 scoops of chocolate flavored whey and it seemed to mask the taste pretty well.

I don't know...

Everyone keeps telling me that flax seed oil has a sort of "nutty taste", but it doesn't taste like anything resembling a nut if I drink it straight.

The first time I tried a tablespoon of it, was about 6 months ago. I nearly lost my lunch. :Puke: A friend told me that it must have been rancid.

Ok... So i threw away that bottle. I went to another place and got a bottle that was in a dark, light-proof container, and well refriggerated. I still nearly lost my lunch when I tried drinking it straight.

Luckilly, it tastes ok mixed with unsweetened yogurt, and a little artificial sweetener and cinnamon. I also don't mind it in my protein shakes. The health benefits outway the bad taste, in my opinion, anyway.

I guess my tastebuds are just weird. Everyone else I know seems not to mind it.

Don't worry..

The first week when I took the oil, I nearly had to barf every single time.
A friend who had recommended the oil to me came along and we took some measures (after discovering she could hande it well enough).
Refrigerate the bottle (it was unrefrigerated).
Mix the oil with a little bit of salad olive oil or cream to take away the awful taste..
And somehow, 2 weeks later I could even take it undiluted... as I got used to it.

You and me have just very sensitive noses and it apparently reeked rancid to us.. which it wasn't.
I still take it undiluted as I don't want it to spoil my fresh cheese (quark) ... the first time I mixed it, I nearly barfed when eating the fresh cheese and that was a lot more to swallow down!

I personally only use the caps, while I can stomach the liquid, my girlfriend cannot.

Jalilah Sat, Nov-09-02 19:11

Are you suuuuuuure? :Puke:

I think it tastes pretty bad. Maybe the stuff I got was bad?

LMari Sat, Nov-09-02 21:01

Hey Jalilah,
Did you get anywhere with the police? I'ts got to be so fustrating when you think that they're the ones who can set things right and you realize that it's not their priority.

How are you taking the oil? I bought Barleans oil and I think my protein shakes taste better with the oil. I do one w/oil after my wo and one later in the afternoon. My oil doesn't taste that bad.

Nah..the cops aren't interested at all. They take their notes and they go on their way and we don't see them again...until it happens again. We found out a couple of days ago that my son's friend, three blocks away, got hit three times in one month, the last being on Halloween---just a few days before we were hit again. We're moving.

A friend of mine had some of the oil...I didn't buy any, although I'd been thinking about it. I've still got the gelcaps left, so I'm taking those.

Also, Lyle says (and I've read on other sites, etc.) that it's best NOT to take in any fats/oils with your protein after workouts because it slows/impedes protein uptake. Just so ya know. :p

That's absolutely right. For best uptake, it should be whey mixed in water.

Hey, TrainerDan!

Question: Does that include fat-free milk?? I use that instead of water so I don't have to gag it down. LOL.

Trainerdan Sun, Nov-10-02 11:50

well ....

The milk protein (as well as the lactose) will slow down the digestion process a bit more than straight water, but not nearly as much as including fat in the post-workout meal.

Jalilah Sun, Nov-10-02 11:54

Ohhh.. okay. Maybe I'll just be tough and try it with h20 next time! LOL... :p

Thanks!

LOL... it's not gonig to be that bad. Especially if you can disguise it in something else. Now..doing shots of flax oil----I don't recommend that! :p
