Love this, got hooked and read more and more of her blog, and almost got lost there, but managed to find my way back here, through the portal of your Journal. Whew! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for posting this, Thud! It answered a lot of questions for me. And this is my new mantra!
If your body is HF, all you need is LC |
Great article!

Can anyone clarify for me her position on MCT oils? I know she is saying that we should not feel a need to put "extra" fat in our diet, just for the sake of more fat. But she did say something about not meaning MCT oils....I have a teaspoon of coconut oil just by itself in midafternoon most days, and I'm wondering why I do that, LOL I'm sure I read something at some point of the advantage of eating it, and something about it increasing ketosis -but in view of this article, does that make any sense? Even if it DOES increase my ketones, is there any point in that? Hoping my question makes sense!

I can't speak for Amy obviously but here's my take on it (one who has been adding 1 oz fat [butter/coconut oil] to my morning coffee for 6 months) - If you like to add some fat, add it. I don't think it's particularly beneficial to add a lot nor do I think it's particularly harmful to add a lot. I know that when I eat mostly fat I'm not hungry very often during the day. That's a benefit if you're looking to drop weight ;)
Also, the same Amy wrote another article that's kind of funny that's refered to a lot here, Janet or JEY100 does anyone and I like it and her ;) http://www.tuitnutrition.com/2016/0...-a-ketard1.html |
Ok laughed a lot at her posting. Thanks for sharing, very helpful and makes a whole lot of sense to me.

Thanks for the link, Thud. Very interesting.

Amen. Amy has a new book coming out in December with Dr. Eric Westman. They talk about this. Not all of us need ultra low carb, and no offense to anyone who reads this, but some people act like you’re committing a cardinal sin if you even go over 50 grams carbs! Now that I’m back to an 8 hour eating window, I can low carb without keto and do just fine.

Good article. My approach to keto has always been really simple...veggies, meat, poultry, fish, eggs. And for veggies I range from tomatoes to kale, and everything in between. I need simple, easy to understand and follow, guidelines, without a lot of fuss around portion size or worrying about a little bit of balsamic vinaigrette.
Of course, I have used it for weight loss and have not yet figured out how to move to low carb (100 ish grams) without losing focus and gaining weight back. Maybe this time will be it:-) |
Sniggle. Dr Atkins rules were simple enough to put on one sheet of paper. Dr Westmann about the same, with fewer rules in exchange for more limuted options.
Otherwise..... 3 cups of green leafy veg OR 2 Cups grern leafy veg plus 1 cup low carb veg With allowed extras like cheese, olives etc that puts carbs at 20. Not 100. Perhaps someone can put up a link to Atkins rules and dr W's. |
Arielle, there is a post here under Atkins Diet outlining OWL (ongoing weight loss) which spells out the Atkins WOE post induction.
https://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=409812 There's also a post under Atkins Diet listing induction foods. https://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=236482 |
