Oh, Nuts

I have found that nuts are not good for me to have around as I eat way to many of them in one setting. I also find that I tend to crave salt more since I have started LCing. Have any of you felt the same craving? :(

I have the same problem with nuts. They are just too easy to grab a handful of and before I know it half the can is gone.

I don't buy them anymore because I cant control it. :(

If you like nuts you may want to buy those smaller ziploc bags and pre-ration them into 1 carb or 2 carb servings.

Or buy raw, unroasted or unsalted nuts. They're still tasty, but they don't seem to scream "eat me".

..........YAP, always....wipped cream.....but you will find your way out of it.....Im so sure of it....(later)....

Thanks for the information. For now I won't buy any and later much later I will wrap them up as soon I bring them home.

I found that I had problems with salted nuts but with the raw ones I can stick to an oz and feel satisfied.

The only nuts that I need salted are sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds and I have those very very rarely.

As a treat I will buy a small bag and eat the whole thing but I dont do it often and the bags I buy only contain 1 or 2 servings so it isnt that big a deal.

Raw macadamias are awesome btw!

I can't handle nuts at all...salted or not, roasted or not. I don't buy the evil things... :D

I can't control myself with nuts either, except the ones still in the shell that you need a nut cracker with. Maybe I am lazy but if they are shelled I can't stop eating them. If they are in the shell I don't bother with them.

I've only had peanuts twice since starting & they were individual packages. I'm sure I would have some trouble ignoring an open can ;)

I always add my nuts to other foods and very rarely eat them alone. I use toasted walnuts with asparagus, butter and fresh lemon (it's good topped with parmesan cheese too). I also eat walnuts in cottage cheese with sliced fruit (usually with berries, melon or apples) . Toasted almond slivers are good in broccoli slaw or coleslaw type salads with a dressing made of oil, vinegar and splenda. Sunflower seeds or soy nuts are great for salads. Chopped up peanuts are good for cucumber salads with asian flavors. Toasted pine nuts are great with feta cheese, basil, tomatoes, olive oil, parsely, lemon juice, kalamata olive, cucumber salad. Pecans are great with dishes that have pumpkin or winter squash. Also using ground nuts as a crust for chicken and fish is a good way to use them. I find a little bit goes a long way when you use nuts with other foods. Hope you can use some of the ideas to help.

Elsah, toasted pecan pieces are yummy too.

Wow Elsah, you're on top of it. I never though of half those ideas. That sounds fun. I logged on, saw the thread, got up and grabbed a can of almonds and munched the last ounce or 2 while I was reading the thread. I forgot about those tiny zip lock bags. That might just work. Although I would probably keep going back for more bags just like I did with the individual nuts. Who knows, maybe there's a way to freeze the bag of nuts in a tin bowl of ice so I can't microwave it and have to wait for it to thaw before eating them. That's what some people do to keep from using their credit cards. :) Annie
