No self control :-(

Well its that lovely TOM again and I was craving chocolate so I got some carborite peanut butter cups.

The problem I found is that I have no self control around them.

Its difficult to explain. I can see high carb food and not want it at all, smell it etc, doesnt bother me but when I have these LC bars around in the house I just want them all the time.

I am not hungry, I am not even having cravings I just want them. I dont know if its because its TOM or if I am trying to justify my eating them because they are allowed and since I dont eat them often I want more when I have them.

I am not sure why. I can resist the high carb food just fine. I just feel out of control with these :-(

Of course you know the answer to this......don't have them in the house.:nono:

Could you please explain the difference, here?

If I had to guess, I'd say it's more of an emotional desire than a craving for a particular food.

OHGal1415 Thu, Jan-22-04 14:43

But is a craving NOT an emotional desire?

Justjen72 Thu, Jan-22-04 14:46

I am the same way with nuts. I can't have just one.

Si Belle Thu, Jan-22-04 14:58

I found that having only ONE is my problem. I simply stay away from food I can't control myself around. Out of sight, out of mind!
Hang in there My Journey, you are doing great!

Well the best way I can is before I began LCing when I would have a craving for something it would always come with physical symptoms I would need it more than even wanting it. It was something I had to have and totally had no control over.

In this case its more of a rational thought process where as I am having it I am telling myself I shouldnt have it. I can live without it. I dont really want it. I realize its not good for me. I dont feel out of control as I am eating it, but I really am!

Its strange the way I feel. Its like touching fire and as you are doing it you are perfecty aware of what is going on and that you shouldnt be doing this. You dont feel out of control or like you have to do it. For some strange reason you just want to even though you know you really dont and you wont like the results.

I know its not making any sense. I just cant really explain how I feel.

OHGal1415 Thu, Jan-22-04 15:17

Let's try this. I know it's kinda bizarre, but bear with me...:D

If you suddenly had some catastrophic illness and lost all sense of taste or smell permanently, would you still HAVE to have it? Would you still have this overwhelming desire?

WeeOne Thu, Jan-22-04 15:17

I do like to keep some LC candies on hand just in case I get a sweet tooth and want some chocolate, but I have learned to keep them in the outside freezer! Out of site out of mind! I found out early on that these were a red light item for me. I bought some on sale at Walmart last Monday and I haven't had one yet.

Also, I don't consider them allowed foods anymore. Most have partially hydrogenated oil in them and they have no nutritional value what so ever. To me they have become an occasional treat and I consider them to be a cheat food.

In my first example pre atkins I would have to say yes. The fact that if it was around and I knew it was around I dont think I would have been able to sit still knowing that.

Now I am not sure because it wasnt a matter of having to have it but just wanting it. Even though I know its bad for me and as I am eating it I am consciously saying this is bad for me I still want it. I may not want it if I lost all taste and smell, in fact there is a probably good chance I wouldnt but then again it might be just one of those times that I want something bad for me.

I dont know.

I would like to say I wouldnt

OHGal1415 Thu, Jan-22-04 15:48

But my point is...
From where does the enjoyment stem? If you couldn't taste it or smell it, why would you eat it?

What does this "somthing bad for me" mean to you?

latingirl Thu, Jan-22-04 15:51

MyJourney, I understand EXACTLY what you are saying. I guess this is when Potatofree should come in and Dr Phil us!
When I have that feeling now I just eat something very high in fat and not sweet.

I know this sounds insane but it isnt in the taste as much as in the act of doing something self destructive.

At least thats what I am thinking since I didnt really even like the taste all that much. And if all I was after was taste why didnt I eat any of the high carb junk that I have all over the place?

picaboo Thu, Jan-22-04 18:54
