Keeping Myself on Track

Decided to start a short, simple gym log as part of my commitment to the TDC fitness challenge!! I am so excited to be a part of it :D!! I am hoping this will make more more accountable. I don't plan to write much in here, except a short sentence on my activity level for the day. Not very exciting to read , but a place to give myself a boost to make sure I exercise!

TODAY'S ACTIVITIES: Rest day ~ Now I know you may be thinking this is not a good way to start this , but it was a heck of a day with so much going on and I wanted to be honest. At least give me that :)

Today's activities: heavy cleaning, and that's it :(

LoriLoCarb Wed, Jun-09-04 22:36

Only 10 minutes on bike, but lots of helping hubby with some things around the house :) Definately feel more like moving and that in itself is a "good thing"

*sigh* Nothing yet today and it is not looking hopeful - I think I need to always try to get it done in the morning and outta the way :)

Hi there. Getting a new habit started is BRUTAL, isn't it?

Your first thing in the AM idea can actually be a really good strategy.

Try this: keep your "workout" clothes and shoes right by the bed.

When you get up, get into them IMMEDIATELY and go for a walk. You won't have time to talk yourself out of it.

If you can do this for 10 minutes first thing in the morning at least 5 days a week, you'll be ahead of the game and you'll feel proud of yourself ALL DAY.

Give it a try?

Promise yourself you will NOT do any more than you set out to do, so you don't dread it and you don't feel like you can't believe yourself. I know people who get into a NASTY pattern of talking themselves into doing extra, and it turns into an obsession. Tell yourself "10 minutes" and do 10 minutes. You need to know you can trust yourself.

The other thing is, MAKE yourself START, but give yourself permission to stop RIGHT AWAY if you just don't feel like it.

You KNOW if you talk yourself out of it before you begin, you'll spend the rest of the day regretting it.

But again, you need to trust yourself. Some days, you just need a break. So here's the deal: you HAVE to put on the gear and start walking, but once there, you can decide if you just want to turn around, you can go home - no guilt. You tried, and you just didn't feel like it. 99 times out of a hundred, you'll just keep going and feel better once you start. The odd time you don't, you just needed the break, and your body will tell you that.

Make this a habit for 3 weeks, and it's yours.

Thanks so much for visiting Built!! :yay: You have obviously had amazing success with this WOE and exercise and any help you can provide is so appreciated!! Your strategy sounds like a great one and I will definately try it and let you know how it goes. I was really lazy today since I my work project meeting was cancelled :( . Anyhow, as you said, I just need to make it routine and commit to the habit! I know I can do it :cheer:

Back after the weekend and recommitted to my new exercise plan - early morning before breakfast - am hoping it will suit me well :)

LoriLoCarb Tue, Jun-15-04 09:12

Exercised today :yay: - 15 minutes of stretching and free weights with arms & 20.2 min on exercise bike

Was great, but tough - much different than the casual walks the hubby and I were taking when we started. I did like doing it in the morning and getting on with my day. I tried eating breakfast after though and have NO appetite...hhmm. Maybe I just need to get my body used to a new routine. Hope I can stick to this new routine. I can do it :cheer:!!!!

If I get into ketosis through exercise, I have no appetite either. Don't wait TOO long, but just eat when you feel it return.

Good work!

60 minutes of walking today - WOO HOOOO!!!

orchidday Fri, Jun-18-04 14:24

You are doing great Lori! Keep up the good work. It takes a lot of willpower for us TDC members to do the exercise but we burn more calories as a result :).

Thanks for visiting Orchid!!!!

Only 30 minutes of walking today - was a bit sore from yesterday, but am glad I still walked! If I exercise for the next 2 days, I will meet my TDC fitness challenge goals! :yay:

15 minutes of stretching/arm weights + 20 minute exercise bike routine. Did not do more time on bike but did a routine with greater resistance. Was tough but I made it :)

Built Sat, Jun-19-04 13:43

Good call on upping the resistance - it's good to switch it up a bit and vary your routine.

LoriLoCarb Tue, Jun-22-04 10:17

Thanks for visiting Built! I am happy to say too that I did more time AND resistance today - only 10 minutes more (30 minutes total on bike + 20 minutes of stretching and light arm weights) but it was much easier and I find I am really enjoying it as part of my morning routine.
