Question about fiber

Someone I know who did the low-carb diet once told me that for every gram of fiber that is in a food, it cancels out one gram of carbs. Does anyone know if that is true, and if so.... why?

Crowbear, many LC plans subtract the fiber from carbs. Fiber is a carbohydrate but it is one that cannot be absorped by the body, hence it doesnt count. PP has been using this method since 1995 and Atkin's recently started using it as well. What you have left over after you've subtracted the fiber is the Effective Carbohydrate Count (ECC). This permits you to eat a few more carbs and to vary your menus more.

Thank you Nat, that helps a lot. One thing that I have been doing is eating a lot of sunflower seeds. Most of carbs in them are fiber, so I really appreciate your answer. :D
