Lunchtime comparison

Right now I'm eating lunch:
Romaine lettuce and baby spinach sprinkled with ceaser dressing, with grilled chicken and low salt bacon on top. The salad is about 2 cups worth and my chicken is a large sliced up breast piece. (Can you vision this on a paper plate?) now next to me is a man eating a Weight Watchers frozen meal. I noticed just a second ago that he keeps looking over at my meal and then picks at his... :D

I get the same types of looks here at work. I've got a plate full of lettuce, cucumbers, chicken salad, cheese, pepperoni, and olives. Then I pour on some ranch dressing. I can't tell you how many times I've heard, "Well, you just took the healthy out of that salad". What do they know??? :D

I'm eating broccoli, tuna and cheese heated in the microwave. My two co-workers often mention how good my lunch looks, then go to Long John Silvers. Go figure....

Hi Lessara,

funny observation! Yes, people look strange at me now. Had lunch with a girlfriend, first of she was shaking like crazy because she was so hungry. I put the butter we got for the bread on my fish, ate veggies and left the potatoes. She made a funny comment. On the way out she bought some chocolate and told me: "I need it because I get so sleepy after lunch"
Scary: it was me 2 months ago!

I eat meals at my desk throughout the day and almost ALWAYS get a "that looks good" comment, especially about my homemade salads. It IS good. :yum: Another meal I often eat is takeout chicken and veggies from this one place that slathers their veggies in oil and grills or roasts them. Yummers.

Sleepy after lunch! That's one of the telltale signs! :)

Watch out!!!!

Lessara - I think that man with the weight watchers dinner just snitched a piece of your chicken :D

I've often brought my own lunches to school with me (law school), usually leftovers from dinner.
Several times now I've had people commenting on what I'm eating 'that looks good, smells good" etc, (my food always seems to smell good since I use a lot of spices!). Of course these people are munching away on subway sandwiches(the only "real" food available in the building) or eating chips from the vending machines. Scary that it was me ONE month ago!! Doesn't it feel good to be eating the delicious lunch everyone envies AND to be able to tell them you're losing weight?

Oddly enough, for lunch,I take the same thing I did pre Atkins,
Tuna salad with lot's of bits of veggies, only now, my bottle of full fat dressing is the only one in the lunchroom fridge, LOL.
But what draws attention is the snacks, as most are wolfing done, muffins/toast/donuts, Today I spread out my little bundles of Slice Jiamica/ cold steak thinly sliced/ 1/4 avocado/1oz of cheddar cheese. It did morning and afternoon break. And it drew some nice comments ;)

Cheers Kathy

I truely believe...

that lunch time on a low carb diet just out does anything others bring for lunch and its not just me saying it. I walked into the back room with my steak, mushroom, basil and garlic lunch and I heard, ,"What's that smell?" "Oh that's Kassie heating up her lunch" "Really, it smells delicious!" "She's can cook!" "Did she make enough for me <chuckle>"

Ok. That made my day!

One thing I like to bring to work is "Lasagna in a bowl" and usually add a veggie. Broccoli and spinach seem to work the best, depending on my mood.

It's funny... people say how good it smells and ask what it is. When I tell them what it is :

cottage cheese
small amount of tomato sauce
ground beef (and)
broccoli or spinach

they make all these little "Eww" noises ... but it sure tastes yummy!

I also love pepperoni chips with a bit of slightly melted cream cheese. Yummy.

Hey, although I have cut back on the cottage cheese for now, what a great idea, Thanks Kathy

i usually get teased at lunch due to my variation of stuff and how i bring it in little tupperware/plastic containers. it is fun to them to see what i have in my containers today!! i like variation and so i end up with a little of this and that!!

today it was ground beef and cheese that i nuked, topped with lettuce, sour cream, and salsa. and for dessert, plain yogert with some blueberries mixed in. altogether it was 5 containers hehe.

I had to invest in more of those little containers, myself. All different sizes and shapes...

Do you think about how much money you're saving everyday by bringing lunches rather than buying? And what about the time? No standing in cafeteria lines or heading to the local fast food place! And, of course, losing weight and enjoying every bite at the same time!

This thread did make me laugh

Although I often just bring something low carb in for my lunch, we do also have a staff restaurant, which I use a couple of times a week. There's a daily carvery, and I always make sure that I go on the day roast pork is on the menu - you should see the look on people's faces when they see me with a plate full of meat with (literally) piles of crackling on top :yum: :D And it's always the pasty-faced scraggy ones with a plain baked potato, tiny salad or pasta who looked the most shocked

Lessara Mon, Mar-31-03 11:34

Hi

I bring lunch usually 5 times a week but sometimes I order the Friday lunch (after all boss pays for it) Which in a way shows others that Atkins isn't impossible to order with. My example:
"Hello? Hi I would like the grilled chicken salad with no croutons... I'm allergic to wheat... thanks! Can you double the chicken and put some bacon on it? You can? Thanks! "

You should have seen the people looking at my salad :D
(and I lost another pound by the way! )
