help my friend

Hi there,

Afriend of mine is on Atkins unfortunately she doesn't have a computer at home. My dear friend is the person who started me on this program and I am forever greatfull, cause if I didn't see her and her success I wouldn't we doing this program.
Ally, was telling me that she went out on the weekend and ate all the right things and drank low carb beer. Later in the evening the bartender was giving them shooters for free (holy sugar) the next day she was sick puking and the runs.
Has anyone ever been sick going off the diet, because of the amount of sugar?

It could just be the beer followed by the shooters! I know what that would do to me the next day! It would not be a pretty site! :Puke:

I'd be sick as a dog if I drank that much period.

It may or may not have to do with Atkins. Tell her to up her water to atronomical amounts, nix the dairy for today, and sip some chicken broth.

I agree with above...it is probably just the shooters!! They will make anyone sick, diet or not! But being on Atkins does make us even more sensitibve to alcohol so she needs to do all the normal age old remedies for hangovers.......poor baby...I feel for her..

When in university, my old party days, we used to say "beer before liquer never been sicker". Not sure of the reason but they say (whoever they are) that if you are going to mix the hard stuff with beer you should never drink the beer first. Water is the only fix.

we used to say:

beer then whiskey, very risky
whiskey then beer, never fear!

Boy, that was a long time ago! I feel really old all of a sudden! :daze:

Yeah, I don't think her sickness was diet related, but as others have said, because you don't have anything in your stomach to absorb the alcohol, LCs tend to be more suceptible to alcohol. I know that I start feeling woozy much sooner now than I did before LC'ing, and this seems to be pretty common.

I think your friend needs hot tea and chicken broth, and to limit the shooters the next time around (or at least not dring the beer first! )

Yes, my husband says I'm a cheap date now, I absolutely cannot have more than one martini! And I thought I'd be able to guzzle because they are no-carb.
