One gram or less of sugar?

I've noticed that some products may be low carb but have 1 gram or <1 gram of sugar. If you have, say 1 gram - or even two - of sugar per day, will that affect your blood sugar or throw you out of ketosis?

I read somewhere on here a little while ago about someone writing Atkins Nutritionals to ask them about this. I *thought* that I read that the response from Atkins was that 1 gram or less was ok, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know?

I don't know but I'm very curious about this as well since the salsa I just used to make some sloppy joses had 1 gram of "sugars" (though sugar, corn syrup or any of those other nasty scientific mumbo-jumbo acronyms were conspicuously absent from the label).

BUMP

That was meeeeeeeee :yay:
I contacted Atkins on Mayo and Salad Dressings they assured me that it was ok IF sugar is not listed as one of the first 4 or 5
I was concerned as in the Atkins it says to use hellmans
that is why I contacted them :wiggle:
Please don't confuse 1gram of sugar with 1 gram of carbs
I prefer the regular salad dressings and in Atkins it says try to stick with dressings that are around 2grams of carbs or less

DOn't forget, too, that the carbs in some foods ARE sugars, but naturally occuring ones. The salsa, for example has maybe 2 grams of carbs from the sugars in the tomatoes and such. So don't panic if you see "sugar" as the carbs if there are no forms of sugar in the ingredient list.

ooh was wondering that about the peanut butter :)

Some peanut butters have added sugar, but if you get the natural kind (where the oil separates) the ingredients will read "Peanuts" or "Peanuts, salt" you'll know you're okay. (Remember, though... it's not allowed until after induction.)
