Scales? both bath & kitchen

Can someone recommend a decent scale for both my bathroom and kitchen? I think I need to be a bit more conscious about food weights as well as my own!

I haven't had much luck sorting out what's good and what's not....

Thanks!

I know what you mean. I have a good batheroom scale. It's digital. I can't remember where I bought it though. But I can't find a reasonable priced digital kitchen scale. I've checked Costco, Zellers, a kitchen store and Canadian Tire, and Wal-mart and I can't find one. Sears doesn't have any either. I searched on msn.ca in the shopping area for one. A digital scale come up but they wanted $80 for it and it didn't go as high as I wanted it to for weighing pounds.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Kitchen Scale

My daughter, the trained chef, is thankfully home again with her scale. It is electronic (I believe the brand name is Salton), and can weigh in any increment (lbs, kg, oz, g) you need, up to 11 lbs/5 kg.

I paid about $110 for it at a kitchen supply shop, but you may get it for less (Ashton Green has it in their catalogue for $89.95 cdn).

I don't own a bathroom scale. I've decided not to obsess about MY weight, and just weigh my food, instead. Perhaps some day I will cave in and get a scale, but at present, as I'm doing this for the health benefits rather than strictly weight loss, I will remain conveniently ignorant of my weight.

thanks for the info - I will check that out. I too decided not to obsess about weighing in and would use the seat scale -- my seat looser in my clothes. So far so good - maybe I will just start with the kitchen scale! Thanks again....I'll check it out.

Terrific! Found that model along with another (Model #1001) both the same price and same weight breakdowns. Thanks again!

Went out and got one today! I am really happy to find the one that weighs both liquid and dry ingredients. Looks like I have been over-estimating amounts in some places and under-estimating in others OOPS! This should make it all just a little bit easier!!

Thanks for the recommendation....

Hi tlmarshall,

I also need a kitchen scale. A good one! I overestimate nut ALL the time, and end up eating way more than I should.
Where did you get yours?

Here in Ottawa, the Walmarts now carry a digital scale. Look near the other appliances (deep fryers, toaster ovens, etc..). It's around 60 dollars if I remember right.

However, all of them have been sold out for weeks. I'm kicking myself for not picking one up the first time I saw them.

I've seen a newer good one (measures to 1 g, great for those tiny ingredients when baking) at Canadian Tire. $60 or so.

Quite a while back, when I gave up on finding a good digital that weighed to 1g and cost less than $100, I picked up a nice little digital postal at Stapes or Office Depot (can't remember which) on sale for $45.

Thaks IslandGirl! I will go to canadian tire today.

Duchesse - I picked up the Salter one that measures both dry and wet ingredients. It was around $76 + tax. I have used it a few times already and its really terrific. I highly recommend it.
