hanging skin

I was just wondering. I have heard about this before and seen it on TV also. People who lose a lot of weight, when they are at their goal weight, has skin that has to be removed. I have only lost 13 pounds so far, but I am wondering if that is something I am gonna have to deal with. Why does that happen? Isn't skin supposed to be kinda elastic-like and adapt to the weight loss? Does everyone who loses alot of weight go through this or just some? Just wondering.

I think it depends on how much weight you have lost and at the rate at which it was lost. Ive lost about 90 lbs in the last 7 months and my skin has tightened accordingly. My doc told me that weight training was the main reason that I dont have saggy skin, so I guess that plays a role in it as well.

my 2 cents

I have lost 65 lbs and haven't noticed a lot of extra skin. I think exercise is the key to having it "pop" back into place. :)

Weight training and age are the key factors.

i lost over 200 and my skin looked horrible.. it was just a flap of hanging empty skin. Had to have an abdominoplasty to remove it. The surgery was well worth it.

It depends on so many things, your age, your genetics, how much weight you lose. If you're young you probably haven't got much to worry about.

Your start weight is similar to mine. I am 36 and find that my skin has tightened better than I expected.

I still do have a bit of loose skin on my inner thighs, but I think even that is improving slowly, especially now that I am near goal and have begun working out more. In any event, it is covered up by my shorts and would only be noticeable if I was in a bathing suit and someone was very close to me. Naked of course it's visible but I'm working on that and DH doesn't care - he loved me even when I was 60 lbs heavier.

My stomach has a tiny little pucker of skin around where my stretchmarks are (I was fat a LONG time). But I have no overhang at all and my pooch is really quite small now. I used to be able to grab great handfuls of it all the way across my front. Now there is only the little bulge that most people have. I'm hoping my workouts will help tone it some more.

All in all, not so bad.

Just like everyone else, it all depends on your weightloss, how much, and your age. My mom is on Atkins as well she is 47 and has lost about 38lbs in three to four months. Her skin has gone right into place! So it all depends! I worry about this also, since I am overweight for my height and have quite a belly on me. So, if worse comes to worse, I will get a tummy tuck and a boob job! At one time!!!! LOL!!!

Went from 270lbs to 185 with no sags or bags. Excercise also helped me I believe.
