Carb count for Splenda

Hey all

Just a quick question on Splenda. The box says it has .5g of Carbs for every tsp. Does anyone know if these are digestable carb's. When you add 1/2 cup to a receipe that can really add up.

Hi there Blueowl,

Yes, I'm afraid all of those carbs need to be counted. 24 carbs per cup of granulated Splenda does add up a bit.

Cheers.

Thanks, I figured they did, but was hoping they did not.

In a past thread, I asked if I should count carbs for Diet Rite... which is made with splenda... and I was told there were 0 carbs. How is that even possible?

Anyone have any idea how MUCH splenda is actually in, say, an 8 oz serving of Diet Rite? I'd like to count this properly!!

Thanks,
~D

Manufacturers have access to liquid splenda which has no carbs. In the retail variety the carbs come from the maltodextrin which is used to bulk up the Splenda and make it easy to use.

Just curious:

The packets of splenda are a much different texture from the boxed bulk splenda... is it possible that the packets have fewer carbs (albeit some) then the bulk?? It seems like they used less bulking agent to make the packets a more convenient size.

It may just look that way because the stuff in the packets gets a bit crushed up?

Either way, Viva Splenda!!

Hi Roze,

Yes, the little packets are more concentrated, but not really enough to affect the carb count of the filler. So each little packet, being equivalent to 2 teaspoons sugar, has 1 carb. It's actually very slightly under, but too close to call it anything other than 1. ;)

Splenda tablets on the other hand have virtually no carbs. 0.075 per tablet to be precise. They are available here in Oz, but I believe they can also be ordered over the net. :)

There is a website "locarber.com that sells liquid splenda with zero carbs. Something like 1 tblsp equals 1 cup sugar. The powdered sugar has fillers along with the packets & thats where the carb count comes in. Most commercial products use the liquid splenda, which has no fillers or carbs.
