I am so hungry!!!

This is my 17th day on induction. I am starving!

This is what I have had today.

Breakfast
2 egg omelet (cooked in butter)
1 cup black coffee
1 cup coffee with cream & splenda

Lunch
Atkins chocolate shake

snack
salami ( 5 round slices w/cream cheese

2 diet rootbeers

Hurried dinner
2 cups salad with Paul Newman's O/V dressing
1 hot dog ( no bun) with mustard

I usually have an Atkins bar and some hot tea after the kids are in bed. This is my only treat!
Can someone give me some suggestions. Am I eating enough?

Thank you!

Every day can be different. Tomorrow, you might have the same menu and be totally satisfied. I don't do shakes or bars, but why not have a couple of hotdogs instead of just the 1? More pepperoni? Some cheese? I didn't notice if you had any water intake. Sometimes thirst comes knocking disguised as hunger. Try having a large glass every hour or 2. You shouldn't be hungry, 'cause you can EAT if you are!

I am a bad girl. I didn't post water, because I haven't been
keeping up with drinking the amount I should. I think
I have only had 24 oz today :(. I definately need to get in more.
I didn't have 2 hot dogs because I was afraid I would go over
on my carbs. I forgot I did add 1/2 of an avocado to my salad.

I might have let too much time go by without having a snack.
Also I was a bit stressed. Hubby had surgery this week and
its been a long stressful week. But I have not cheated at
all like I probably would have on previous diets!

Thanks for the reply. I do appreciate the help!

I didn't calculate the totals, but it also looks like you might not be getting enough protein. Protein and fat will help you feel fuller, it definitely works for me! Try adding some chicken (2 or 3 oz.) to your salad, bacon, sausage or ham with your eggs, two or three hot dogs for dinner instead of just one....etc. What's "O/V" dressing? Try a full fat dressing like Ranch, Blue Cheese, etc. Hope this helps.

Try more real food -- how about a chef's salad for lunch with lettuce, red pepper, cucumber, cheese, turkey, roast beef, and a hard boiled egg. That will probably satisfy you much longer than an Atkin's shake. Also, the diet sodas can cause cravings in some people and make them hungrier.

One hot dog is not enough for dinner. I avoid hot dogs in general because of all the additives in them, but if you eat them, eat several. How about something more substantial -- like a steak, or a nice piece of fish, or a quarter of a chicken?

Also, if it is your 17th day on induction, how about trying a few more carbs? A couple of berries are nice with breakfast and you can certainly add more vegetables to what you are already eating.

Your husband having surgery can certanly create stress and stress creates hunger! You need to go easy on yourself when you have weeks like that.

Good luck!

I have definitely noticed that fat fills me up. I try to make sure I have some sort of fat with every meal, otherwise I end up feeling hungry between meals. Add butter, cream, cheese, even cream cheese on celery. Mock danishes are very filling and I usually serve mine with a dollop of butter on top.

You should NOT be hungry, even in Induction. It just sounds like you need to boost the protein and fat in your daily intake. The Atkins shake at lunch might be easy, quick, and convenient, but it might not be enough. The beauty of following this WOE is never being hungry. If I'm hungry, I whip up some egg salad and have it on a low-carb tortilla, or a fast snack would be a hard-boiled egg. I believe another poster explained how protein and fat are self-limiting. Sure it's easy to polish off 30 cookies, but have you ever heard of someone eating ten hard-bolied eggs in one sitting? Watch the processed meats if you have issues with salt. Good luck LCing.

Hi,

you should eat 10-12 x your CURRENT weight in calories. Don't starv your body, It's unhealthy and will slow down your metabolism. I've noticed many times that I'm very hungry a week before my TOM. I eat lost of legal foods: meat, chicken, tuna, eggs. After this a whoosh comes to town!
Good luck!
EAT!!!!!

Be careful with those hot dogs. Some hot dogs can have up to 5 grams of carb each!

From what you posted, it doesn't appear so. You could add some veggies with lunch or breakfast and 1 hot dog for dinner isn't provding you with a lot of protein. Dr. Atkins says if you are hungy, eat...just eat something that is low carb and eat until you are satisfied but not stuffed.
I'd go easy on the shakes, diet pop and bars as well as they can provoke cravings and hunger in some people.

I too think some solid food at lunch would be better. Never could handle just a shake. I haven't tried the Atkins shakes but once tried the Slim-fast plan. Hah! I quit before the first day was over. If I wanted to starve to death I would just stop eating.
Sounds like more protein is in order.

Dear onebzzymom,

You're not eating enough - that's why you're hungry.
2 eggs for breakfast is not enough. Add some bacon or other meat. The shake is not enough for lunch and why one hotdog - I usually have three (low carb ones).

Up the protein and fats and you'll feel fine.

Thank you so much for all the replies.
You guys are the greatest!

I will definately up my protein and fats. I am still programmed
by my other "failed lowfat diets". But I will heed everyone's
advice...fat is where its at! and protein too.

Thanks again.

Yes, it is hard to break the old way of thinking, I know, but you'll learn as you go. For sure include more good protien, watch those bars.............. not allowed on induction, try stick to real food.

Cheers Kathy

I know it is tempting to eat less when you are feeling so great about the diet, I did the same thing today. But I checked the fitday numbers for the day, and was down on the carbs, so I have added some cheeze to bribng it up to level. I suggest if you are not already doing so, use the fitday.com. It can be an eye opener!
