Starch Blockers

Just wondering if any of you have used the starch blocker pills that contain Phase 2 along with doing Atkins. Do they work? What do you think of them?

I haven't used them, but every time I see this question I find myself wondering why anyone would need them if they were already following a low carb plan?
From what I've seen, though, they generally don't work. Save the money that you would spend on starch blockers and get a nice steak and some fresh veggies instead. :)
I have a feeling that those starch blockers make a lot of claims that they can't deliver on. Really...if there were a magic pill that allowed folks to eat whatever they pleased and still lose weight that worked, wouldn't it be headline news across the nation?

:nono: I tried them before we decided to do the Atkins plan. A BIG WASTE OF MONEY. I ate the same, felt the same and weighed the same!!
The reason I actually stopped taking them was because someone, in the know, told me that they cause you to actually loose valuable vitamins and minerals along with the carbs and starches you body is suppose to be flushing out of your system.
It makes sense when you think about it.

Unfortunately, the old saying "If it sounds too good to be true, then its too good to be true" applies here. I have seen lots of posts about these pills and most say they don't work and they have a laxative effect on a lot of people.

All I got for my money was bad gas and the sense of being able to eat foods I should avoid, because my "magic pill" would take care of it. IMHO, although some people swear by them, I'd rather swear AT them. Never again.

Thanks for the info. I just don't understand how those magazines get away with outright lying like that. I was thinking that I would use them once in awhile if I wanted to splurge on something (like pizza), but now I will definitely not waste my money! I just make the low carb deep dish pizza recipe instead!

It's all in the fine print.... that article is what got me going in the first place as well. Clever wording like "some people" and "MAY help block some of the starch carbs" in articles and ads, as well as the ubiquitous "Results may vary"...

There's even a book, a whole diet plan based on the "Starch Blockers".. I can't IMAGINE how I'd feel using them before every meal. Tie a string around my ankle and walk me past Macy's on Thanksgiving Day!!!

Lisa n , that article is enough to scare me FAR from ever trying those things.
